Copa America
« on: June 07, 2016, 09:12:34 pm »
Happy to see the USMNT performance tonight as a rebound to a difficult Colombia match, but the first 7 minutes were white knuckled. Hope they put away Paraguay and take a bit of confidence into the QF....they'll need it.

You'd think I'd be happier watching the Ticos get embarrassed on a global stage.

My guys, by the way, were the first team in 95 years to win their Copa America debut.

Ticos looked pretty good last night to our benefit. Will be interesting to see what happens tonight.

Did anyone see Messi's magical 30 minutes? The set piece was phenomenal.

No. Why? Did I miss anything?

Colombia was playing their JV team. I wouldn't read too much into that loss.

Does Zardes serve any purpose on this team? He seems completely useless on the pitch. And I'm growing tired of Bradley's habit of laying off back passes that don't make it to their target, only to turn into dangerous giveaways.

Didn't he set up the goal that beat Paraguay?

Zardes has an incredibly shitty first touch, but other than that he's pretty productive.  He's hardly a walking gentleman on the team.

Bobby Wood is going to be good for a very long time for this team. He's going to be missed at the SF.   Beckerman can reasonable step in for Jones and Zusi for Bedoya.  the way this team is playing I actually feel like they have a chance against Agentina. They'll have to play their best, but they have a chance. Not that long ago I wouldn't have thought they would have ANY chance.

Wood makes a huge difference up front. They're going to miss him on Tuesday.

Mexico getting their dicks stomped 7-0 was thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

Was it ever. Those guys are like the Texas Rangers of international soccer.

WAY worse than Ranger fans.  Easily the worst fan base in Western hemisphere.

Big game tonight!

I think I might have mentioned it in this forum before that my wife and her family are from Argentina.  We had the whole crew over Saturday night to watch the game with Venezuela.  Of course much of the conversation was around how bad Argentina would beat the US.  Well the entire group will be back at our place tonight.  I'm certainly no expert but I trust the group here who say the US should be able to at least hold their own tonight.  Otherwise there may be some references to the Malvinas or such and trouble will ensue.  The US has to at least do better than Venezuela and Chile did.

That was more or less what I expected. I've been keepng an eye on the European tournament and from what I can tell Argentina is far and away the best team in the world right now.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's game and a closely played Argentina - Colombia final would suit me just fine.

And I think all reasonable people can agree that whatever happens from here on in is icing on the cake of Mexican debacle.

Messi's free kick was sick. Unstoppable.  The ref was terrible, for both teams, which is disgusting in a cup semi.  Between the Mexico and U.S. Result, it shows were improving but a very long way to go.  The top 10 teams are much, much better than the next 10.

The US isn't beating this Argentina team if we are at full strength.  When we are missing 3 starters and Klinsmann decides to replace them with 30+ year old MLS players....well you lose 4-0 with no shots on goal.

Does it have some holes?
