I like Four Peaks just east of ASU as well.  Good beer and big food.

Don't know too much about Phoenix, other than it's hot as fuck in July.  Scottsdale is a cool little part of the world...restaurants, bars, music.

Thanks for the recommendations! Pizzeria Blanco's "Rosa" pizza was divine.

The Botanical Gardens were teeming with wildlife. I saw countless lizards, a couple of snakes, ground squirrels(?). Also, this may surprise some of you, but the desert is hot. Like, 110º+ every day hot.
