2016 Crystal Ball Tracker
« on: February 15, 2016, 02:09:15 pm »
USA Today is predicting 90 wins for the Astros and an AL West Pennant.

Quote
If you’re assuming 90 wins for the Astros is an endorsement of Carlos Correa’s talents unleashed over a full 162 games, you’d be assuming correctly. The rotation feels sketchy near the back, but the best pitcher in the AL takes the ball at the front.
Always ready to go to a game.

The "human element" they boast about in the intro seems to have gone a bit haywire. I cannot remember nor believe that any season has had 3 100-loss teams.

1985 you had3: Pirates (104), Indians (102), and Giants (100)
2002 you had 4: Rays (106), Brewers (106), Royals (100) and Tigers (106)

I haven't really looked around the AL rosters yet, but what teams have a better 4 than Fiers and a better 5/6 than Feldman/Fister?
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

That was my thought too.  I wondered if this was written before they signed Fister.

Or they were thinking Fisters' 2015 was the new norm for him.

Thanks - chalk it up to old age and lack of desire to research it.

David Schoenfeld of ESPN has the Astros at #3 in his preseason power rankings (behind just the Mets and Cubs) and projecting them for a 93-69 record.

Great to see all of these lofty projections, but given how random baseball has been....I'm getting nervous about the season.

The Sports Illustrated power rankings mirror those of ESPN, ranking the Astros at #3 again behind only the Cubs and Mets.

A number of things have been happening lately that have made me feel like I have been transported to a parallel universe, but none more than the Cubs, the Mets and the Astros being trumpeted as the powerhouses of the major leagues.

Just wait until the Texans win the Super Bowl.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
