Lance McCullers with the chance to pitch us to the playoffs. Just like we all expected in Spring Training.

Probably had no choice with the DBacks wearing their brick tops.

That brick red looks awfully familiar - remember being upset with MLB for allowing the DBacks to change to this color from the previous purple & teal when it looked just like ours.

No botch there...you don't want that throw to go to the plate.  Gotta score that run.

There was no way they were catching Altuve. Gotta make sure the throw goes through before you go.

No way.  You can't let that throw get to the plate.  Springer was rounding second and didn't know what would happen.  He has to draw a cut.  That was good baserunning.

Have there been formal complaints to the Astros about the abomination with a mic that is Alan Ashby?  Or are they under the delusion that people love him?

Error by McCullers and a double by the pitcher have Snakes at 2B and 3B with 2 out...top of the order

B4:

Hill pops out 3U in foul territory
Lamb grounds to Carter, who flips to McCullers who drops it.  E1
Owings strikes out looking
Ray doubles down LF line, Lamb to 3B
Balk by McCullers, Lamb scores, Ray to 3B
Brito grounds out 4-3

Unearned run gives the DBacks a 2-1 lead

I presume this means that Marisnick will be in CF in the bottom of the inning, which I guess means that Marwin will be in LF for the duration of the game. Or is Gomez actually available?

McCullers strikes out looking
Altuve triples down LF line
Springer...infield in...hit by pitch
Correa...full count...walks

That's it for Ray, Delgado in

Gattis, pinch hitting for Rasmus...grounds into FC, Correa out 6-4, but Altuve scores to tie it up, Springer to 3B
Marisnick to pinch run for Gattis
Marisnick steals 2B
Carter...down 0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging

2-2 now

Pollock chops one to SS, Correa charges and just nips him at 1B
Goldschmidt...full count...singles to CF
Goldschmidt moves to 2B on a wild pitch...Castro blocked it, but it bounces in front of the plate, so no chance
Saltalamacchia...1-2...with a rule book double over Springers head...Goldschmidt scores

Question for Hudson: has there ever been an occasion you have seen where a batter with two strikes sees a pitch coming that is obviously going to get away from the catcher, and swings and misses on purpose to try and take first base? Or is it simply too hard to tell what the pitch is going to do or too hard to run 90 feet in time to take that chance?

I've never seen that at the professional level.  It just happens too fast, and you're trained to not swing at pitches that are ridiculously wild.

I've never seen that at the professional level.  It just happens too fast, and you're trained to not swing at pitches that are ridiculously wild.

Certain Astros beg to differ on the last point.

Is "filthiest" the most overused baseball term these days? A pitcher having filthy stuff, I understand. Filthiest plays? I know what they mean, but couldn't they try something more original?

B7:

Pollock singles to RF on the first pitch
Pollock steals 2B as Qualls forgets he has a runner on base
Wild pitch moves Pollock to 3B as Castro lets it go right between his legs
Goldschmidt...infield in...full count...homers to LF, Pollock scores

That's all for Qualls, Perez in

Saltalamacchia pops out F4
Hill lines out to LF
Lamb grounds back to the mound, and Perez's throw pulls Carter off the bag as Carter stretches with the wrong leg...Hinch challenge...looks like it should be overturned...yep, overturned, 1-3

After seven....5-3 DBacks.

Yeah, but McCullers has to be able to stay in this game longer.  His own mistakes cost him.
