For the next 3 days
« on: September 27, 2015, 05:45:26 pm »
We are fans of the Tigers, Indians, and Athletics...

Monday's games (times Eastern):

Twins   Indians   7:10 PM   Hughes (11-9)   Kluber (8-15)

Tigers   Rangers   8:05 PM   Verlander (4-8)   Lewis (17-8)

Athletics   Angels   10:05 PM   Doubront (3-3)   Santiago (9-9)

and of course, we hate our ancient rivals, the motherfucking, plankton-eating Mariners:

Astros   Mariners   10:10 PM   McCullers (5-7)   Elias (5-8)

It's appropriate that the Fish Slingers are one of the last obstacles. Just more history to pile on an already historic rivalry.

According to ESPN.com, the complete HOU v. SEA matchups are:
McCullers/Elias Monday 9:10 CT
Fiers/Nuno Tues 9:10 CT
Kazmir/Paxton Wed 9:10 CT

Thursday is an off day. If they stay on rotation, vs. Arizona it'd be:
McHugh Friday
Keuchel Sat
McCullers Sun

The Mariners gave away the winning run in the 8th yesterday against Anaheim.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to get caught up on sleep.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to get caught up on sleep.

I've already scheduled an afternoon coffee run into each day this week.  Hey, at least the Friday game starts at 8:40!

Also, it appears MLB is trying to emulate EPL and has every game on Sunday scheduled to start at 3:00 EDT.

Cool move if anything's still at stake.

I guess we won't know whether to root for the Rangers or the Halos until we actually get to the weekend.

Yes, eventually it will make for an epic Sunday.  This year, though, in NL unless the Pirates can catch the Cardinals the only thing in play is the Mets and Dodgers' record for home field advantage purposes.   In the AL, it's (hopefully) the AL West and most likely the second wild card spot, which is certainly an exciting prospect for us.

Speaking of which, did everyone see the Cubs beer and champagne celebration following their loss on Saturday?  They clinched the second wild card late Friday night when the Giants lost and scheduled a celebration for after Saturday's game against the Pirates.  So, following the Cubs' 4-0 defeat they all threw up their hats and gloves and drenched each other with champagne and beer reaching peak Cubs in the process.

If you set out to make up the most Cub-like thing they could possibly do I doubt you could top this.

It sounds like we have a new entry for the definition of the word "cub·tas·tic" in relation to an inappropriate or ironic form of celebration or observance.

By the way, do NOT do a Google image search for "cubtastic." Apparently the word is already in use, although it may be somewhat applicable for our purposes. Was anyone else aware of this?

And ESPN did the most ESPN-like thing they could think to do by running a PROGRAM ALERT! crawl across the bottom of the screen telling us we could go to WatchESPN to enjoy the Cubs post-loss celebration.

Remember when Matt Stairs was a cub?  The alternative definitions were a complete overlap.

I'm thinking I wish I hadn't googled Cubtastic.  Somehow porn videos just don't seem to have anything to do with the Cubs.

Apparently to be 'cubtastic' you have to be short, stocky, fat and hairy. Seems to apply.

I'd just rather not have added that to my knowledge base.

The only good thing to come of this is that no one is going to accuse me of being Cubtastic.

I often think about your line comparing the Nicaraguan canal with the Cubs' world series chances.

I wonder if Danny Ortega will throw a Cub-tastic party.
