STOP WALKING PEOPLE, ASSHOLE.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I'd rather get beat by a team playing solid defense than by striking out and popping up.

Sad.  It's ball four.  That was the 8th pitch.

The "good news" is that Tropeano is up over 80 pitches, so they'll get a shot at the Angel pen.

Tropeano out.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

According to FanGraphs, the Astros win chances went down with that result.  A little surprising.

B5:

Valbuena...quickly down 0-2...strikes out swinging
Stassi...whaddyaknow...gets ahead 3-0...strike one at the ankles...now full count...singles to LF
Altuve grounds to SS, Aybar throws it into RF, Stassi to 3B and Altuve to 2B on the TE6
Springer singles to CF, Stassi scores, Altuve to 3B

That's it for Tropeano, Morin in for the Halos

Correa...quickly down 0-2...grounds into FC, Springer out 5-4, Altuve scores
With Lowrie at the plate, Correa caught stealing 2-6...Hinch challenging...call upheld...WHAT THE FUCK?  Even the Halos announcers are gobsmacked.

Astros pick up a pair...3-2 Angels

Yes, and the replay clearly shows Correa's heel touch the bag and he never came off the bag. Aybar kept the tag on him just in case. The problem is that there was no "close up" angle to verify, but you can still see him reach base first. But the a-hole in New York decided he didn't have enough to overturn Angel Hernandez being well out of position to overturn his seriously bad call.

Top of  7:

1. Perez singles to right. 1 on, no out.
2. Featherson grounds to Valbuena who goes to second for a force out. FC, Man on first, one out
==== pick off attempt - looks like he got him, but safe call... no review challenge available =====
3. Aybar - FC 6-3, no chance to get lead runner who was running on the pitch. Man on second, 2 out.
===== Pitching change, Ollie Perez coming on to pitch to Kole Calhoun, the Astro-Killa======
4. Calhoun first pitch swining, pop-up... Altuve has it... 3 down.

It's stretch time!

Lowrie drills it up the middle, but Aybar positioned for the 6u to end the inning.

96 mph sinker with nasty movement gets him. K swinging. Nasty, nasty, nasty pitch.

You guys are at least a batter in front of me and initially I read this that Springer had struck out. So I was puttering around and not paying much attention and was shocked when Springer hit it.

Springer did take one nasty sinker near the bottom of the strikezone. Honestly, if the umprire would have rung him up, there was no reason to complain. Quality pitch. Springer was ready for the next one that was elevated just enough... and props to George, he hit it where it was pitch, he let it travel and it was a line drive to the right corner... exactly how to hit that sort of pitch!

Neshek?

Harris. Will got two quick strikes on him (great location). Then he made a mistake and threw one down and middle in... the happy zone for Trout who kills the low pitches. Double off the wall in left. 1 on, no out... Pujols up to bat.

McClendon says Felix will start Saturday in Anaheim, not Friday. Friday's starter still undecided (presumably either Nuno or Walker).

That means Felix will miss the Astros Mon-Wednesday.   He was originally penciled in as the Wednesday starter.

I won't continue to dwell on this but that call fucking enrages me. I expect some dickwad like Hernandez to miss a call like that. But when the people in New York miss a brutally obvious call I wonder if David Stern is now working for the MLB. It is just unconscionable incompetence or outright fraud.

Harris pitched very carefully to Murphy (a lefty hitter). actually got to 3-2 after unintentionally trying to issue the intentional walk... this sets it up for Neshek versus Cron.

May the best man win!

I agree, but Rasmus looked tentative going back, like he didn't believe it would travel. He could have read that just a little bit better. But honestly, the swing by Freese wasn't one that told me he hit it hard. So the swing may have fooled Rasmus.

Kept tracking the ball as it drifted further toward CF, got on the wrong side of one of the concrete posts in he bullpen. He jumped for it, and it was catchable, but out of his reach where he had stopped.

was it over his head at the wall or could he have caught it?

He could have caught it, but since he wasn't tracking it well, he made an awkward leap to try and snag it, and it bounced off the wall to the right of his glove. Maybe about a foot away from where he guessed the ball would hit on the wall. Tells me that like my view of the swing, Rasmus got fooled by the swing. He trotted back until he was out of room and then ran at a quicker pace and made his last minute leap. Not the best approach to catching that ball, but in all honesty, I don't know how that ball traveled so far... the swing was not that good.

he has been worse than horrible this month.

He lost it Coach... he battled Cron well, then got even with Freese (2-2 count) and then Freese fouled off a great slider. Next pitch was supposed to be a fastball in, maybe four seamer because Freese was leaning to catch up with the outside slider. But Freese got his hands in just enough and put a semi-swing on it. And it travelled. Rasmus was not tracking it well.

But then he (Neshek) just lost it again. Agree... he's been really bad this month.

Meanwhile, back to the game....

Rasmus smokes a grounder to first, nice snag by the first baseman.... 1 down.

Gattis grounds out meekly to second, two out.

Chris Carter lines a double over Trout's head... again, not the best swing so it fooled Trout, plus the sun coming through the glass panes caused some confusion too.

Marisnick pops out to right. three outs.

The Astros have headed to the top of the 8th with the lead 5 times in the first 6 games of this homestand.  2 Blown Saves for Neshek (after having only 1 all year previously).

Dead arm maybe? Or hiding an injury?  And this bullpen is lacking a reliable late inning flame-thrower.  The team's best relievers all rely on movement for the most part.
Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.

So... someone in the Astros advanced scouting department needs to answer for this.... why are the Astros pitchers throwing down and in fastballs to Trout?!?! The guy murders down and in!

Trout doubles to left field, valiant try by Rasmus to lay out for that one... no avail.  Pujols intentionally walked. Now Fields squares off with DeJesus (in for Murphy).

DeJesus grounds out to Altuve... 4-3, third out. Now to the bottom of the ninth, Huston Street in to try and shut the door.

Here we go...

Jose Altuve... smokes a long fly ball over the head of Calhoun. Ground rule double.

1 out, man on second.

Ahum... Lowrie versus Street... rematch!

And there is a ground ball to the right side.... Featherson's got it and throws out Lowrie... Game over... Astros lose a heartbreaker.

6-5 Halos.

Not that many games left in the season, so it's time to play much better baseball than this Orangemen!

Dammit.  We're bitching about the hitters and those poor bastards are just trying to make up what the pitching staff is doing to them.

This is the September Astros game script. With a few rare exceptions (when the Astros blow somebody out or get blown out) this is how it happens every day:

1. Opponent takes an early lead
2. Astros counter and tie it or make the game close.
3. Both teams trade zeroes in the middle innings as the Astros starter settles down while the hitters threaten again and again but can never get a big hit.
4. The Astros bullpen makes a critical mistake in the late innings that allows the opponent to take/extend a lead.
5. One final threat by the Astros offense falters (often just after scoring what would have been the tying run had the bullpen not intervened).

(I actually posted this on another forum after last night's game, but it happened again today, pretty much to the letter.)

Narrow that down a little.  The rotation is sure as hell pulling its weight.

Sure would be nice to have the out that the umps/MLB stole from us back.

Even if for the only reason that Altuve got to lead off the 9th.

Looks like Jake was way over in right-center for some reason. Only Rasmus had a shot, and he might've had it if the fence didn't jut out there where the Waste Management sign is.

Where was Marisnick on the ball Freese hit?

Shifted over to RCF. If he's in normal position, he catches it. The ball was high and came down pretty straight, hitting the wall about a foot up.  Rasmussen was really shallow and got back on the ball, ran into a corner of the column and couldn't get all the way to the ball.  But the ball was in the air a long time. Long enough that a normally positioned outfielder catches it.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

That pitch was fatty meat. Freese's reaction suggests he didn't think it would carry that well either.

Just watched it. Terrible pitch, and yes,  with no column, he catches it.

That slider was like the one Neshek hung to Valencia last week. Both with two strikes.
