Twins @ Astros September 4, 2015

T1;

Whoever led off bounced out 1-3
The next guy flies out F9
Mauer doubles to LCF...Rasmus played that awfully funny as it wasn't hit that deep
Sano singles to CF, Mauer out 8-2 at the plate on a tremendous throw by Gomez!

No score

Twins challenge the play at the plate...speculation on Conger blocking the plate without the ball, but call stand.  Twins out of challenges now.

He's as annoying as ever, won't shut the fuck up about the strike zone...in the first inning.

Nice play by Hank but we may have been lucky on the appeal, seen a similar appeal succeed before.

Singles by Springer and Altuve put runners at the corner with nobody out

B1:

Springer, making his return...singles to RF
Altuve singles to RF, Springer to 3B
Correa grounds into FC, Altuve out 6-4, Springer scores
Gattis grounds into 5-4-3 double play.

The inning fizzled quickly, but the Astros grab a 1-0 lead.

Yeah, but 1B and 3B and nobody out, then boom, three pitches, inning over.  You only get so many chances for big innings.

Pelfrey gave up two hits, one run, three guys reached base and he threw only 8 pitches.

Nope.  Every ball was squared up except Conger's, and he was just out in front and rolled over a bit.  They're seeing it well.

T3:

Suzuki singles to CF
Escobar hits a tailor-made double play ball to SS, but there's no one there, so it's a single, Suzuki to 2B
Hicks lines out to RF, runners have to hold
Dozier strikes out swinging
Mauer strikes out swinging

Nice job by McHugh...

Astros still up 3-0

If you throw a low and away pitch, there's pretty much only one place it can go (unless you're that freak from Oakland the other night who managed to hit that dribbler to 2nd base). And if that place is opposite of where you've shifted all of your infielders, I'm inclined to say it's a bad pitch.

They're across the road somewhere.  The county road runs across my property, so I hope they're not on my property.

I thought in Texas you would hear gunfire just about any time of the day or night no matter where you were?

I thought in Texas you would hear gunfire just about any time of the day or night no matter where you were?

No. Maybe you're thinking of Chicago or Detroit.

It's one thing to shoot people in Texas, but the game laws are always taken seriously.

After proving that a man on 3rd with no outs is no challenge, the Astros are now moving on to bases loaded with no outs. I eagerly await their masterstroke here.

B4:

Gattis lines a single into RCF
Lowrie singles to LF against the shift, Gattis to 2B...Lowrie puts on his flipper
Gomez lines one over SS for a single...Gattis had to hold, so he only moves to 3B, Lowrie to 2B
Rasmus strikes out swinging
Valbuena strikes out swinging
Conger homers to LF, Gattis scores, Lowrie scores, Gomez scores
Springer strikes out looking

But the Astros take advantage...lead 7-0

I've already sent tweets to Luhnow and Reid Ryan.  I figure I'll do it again in a week or so.  They are probably at the games and not listening to the games on the tellyvision.

2 out single by Choo.

Pop out to 3rd to end the game.

Final score:

Rangers 2

Camera guy just straight got fooled. Which fooled me.

Same with me.  My hands were in the air, and I was yelling.. and I swear I saw the ball hit in the front of the Crawford Boxes.  Psychology of goofy camera guy mistakes, I guess.

Fucking Victorino just missed a basket catch to end the inning and hurt himself, 3-2 Angels now in the 7th, Choo on 3rd with 2 outs.

He went all out on that play.  Great effort, just couldn't quite squeeze it.

Crone (sp?) drives in his 4th and 5th runs of the game with a double off the wall in right center.

5-2 Angels.

Nice to see Cron do some damage to somebody other than the Astros.

Pelphrey reminds me of that crazy kid who used to pitch for the Astros, who hated the shift. 93-95 mph two seamer, and that's about it. We had great swings tonight. I'm at a wedding out of town but was watching on my phone courtesy of mlb.tv.
