AFL Rosters announced.  Below is a link for the Houston Astros affiliated Desert Dogs:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/afl/club.jsp?team_id=454

Pitchers: Cotton, Minnis, West and Yuhl
Infielders: Moon, Davis, Reed
Outfield: Fisher

I must say, Minnis is a bit of a headscratcher.
The test of a true champion is how he reacts to adversity on days when it is bound to come.

I think Reed has started slow at every stop in the minors.

Drellich says the Astros have shut down AJ Reed. Want him to rest up and come to ST in good condition.

White, mired in a 0-15 slump, jacked a 2 run homerun with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th to tie it up.  The Estrellas eventually won it in 10.  He did walk 4 times during that slump though.

I assume the Sale comp is based on the funky delivery, not on talent level. Hader has never been mentioned as that level of prospect before.

He's done nothing but mature.  He's the one the Astros will miss in this deal.  If he'd gone to college this spring would have been his junior year.  Considering how well he handled AA hitters I don't think it's a stretch at all to say he would have been utterly dominant against college hitters.

At some point does White's actual production on the field push him higher up the prospect rankings?
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I'm hoping he won't be eligible for much longer.  .325/.442/.496 at AA/AAA last year is just ridiculous.

We all know that high-AVG 1B/DH types without big HR numbers don't do well in prospect rankings. That said, he's hit homers more often (I think) in AAA and the Dominican than he did even in AA, so I suppose we can hope that he's learning how to tap into his power and elevate the ball more.

Nice profile on White in a writeup at BA.

“It’s to the point Tyler White has to prove he can’t do it in the big leagues,” a scout said. “But I do think he has a place on the roster. (But) where is he going to play?” Another scout compared White to Matt Adams, the Cardinals’ hefty power hitter, but [Astros scout Tim] Bittner says White has improved his conditioning. “He wasn’t in the best shape, but he’s done a complete 180,”  Bittner said. “There are not very many guys who can go and get in shape in minor league ball with the schedule they’re on and with some of the places they have to eat. “He’s gotten his body in tremendous shape. It’s a different player.”
