Hope this series is a confidence-builder for the club on the road.

Going into today, this Astros @ Yankees series was reminding me of the Astros @ Yankees series of 2003.  A close Astros loss, followed by an awesome Astros win that was embarrassing for the Yankees (the 6-man no-hitter in 2003, 15-1 in 2015).  Except in 2003, the Yankees came back and won Game 3 to win the series.   That series in 2003 was always a microcosm of the entire season to me.  So much talent, but not good enough to make it.   That Yankees team went to the World Series, and the Astros missed the playoffs.

The 3rd game means so much.  Astros winning 6-2.

P.S. A moment to remember that the 3rd game in 2003 was started by the late Jeriome Robertson, who you might remember died in a motorcycle accident in 2010.   Jeriome Robertson is famous for winning 15 games as a rookie for Houston in 2003, and being traded for Luke Scott before the 2004 season.

I know Gomez gets some crap, and some of it is deserved, but I saw an interview he did shortly after joining the Astros about how easy it can be for a team to be in first and think they will make the playoffs and then miss them.  He brings some good to the team.    I just have a good feeling, I kind of jokingly told a co-worker at the beginning of the season they would win 90 games.  Here's to hoping I'm right.

Here's an interesting web page that's well beyond my understanding of statistical analysis, but according to the linked chart Rasmus leads the league in called third strikes that are actually out of the strikezone.

Today's two were especially awful. If Rasmus swings at either of those, it's a flailing strike out at best and a double play ball or worse.

Rabbit ears umpires need to just shut the hell up and call the baseball game. If you're going to blow calls, players are going to be frustrated. Keep your head out of the dugouts.

Way too early, but with 34 games to go, the Magic Number to clinch the division just dropped to 32, with a chance to drop another spot if the Rangers lose to Toronto tonight.

Fuck Sam Holbrook.

He has no fucking clue where the bottom of the strikezone is, and the fact he tossed Rasmus for taking two terrible pitches that weren't strikes and now is bending Neshek over just proves it even more.

If it weren't for Holbrook correctly seeing and calling Brad Ausmus' game tying home run in the 9th inning of Game 4 of the 2005 NLDS, I'd hate him more.
