Is this the first time they've had Rasmus in RF and Marisnick in LF?  I don't remember if they've played it this way before, but I would have thought it would be the other way around.

On the bright side only a very well placed ball should fall in the outfield.

Didn't they mention on the broadcast last night that Hinch was talking about getting him some rest?

Day before an off day.  Hinch did this same thing with Correa earlier in the year, before the series in Boston IIRC.  He destroyed the Red Sox.

Whichever is more expansive, LF or RF, is where Marisnick plays.  In Yankee stadium that's LF.

OK.  I thought you were looking for instances where they've had Rasmus in RF and Marisnick in LF.  So just one start then.

I was thinking more in terms of that was the plan starting out, not just late-game shuffling.

Marisnick with a push bunt to 1B, Bird fielded it, but Pineda couldn't beat Marisnick to the bag.  Gomez scored.

Altuve with a sac fly to make it 3-0.  Marisnick to 3B, so runners on the corner with one out

And that's it for Pineda.

Altuve, who's been on base in every game this month, with a sacrifice fly, scoring Valbuena and knocking out Pineda. 3-0 now with one out.

Marisnick with a bunt single as Pineda can't get off the mound, Gomez scores, Valbuena to 2B
Castro walks to load the bases
Altuve sac fly to CF, Valbuena scores, Marisnick to 3B

Chasen Shreve replaces Pineda for the Yanks

Marwin singles to CF, Marisnick scores, Castro to 2B
Lowrie walks to load the bases
Wild pitch...Castro scores, Marwin to 3B, Lowrie to 2B
Rasmus strikes out looking

I guess you could move Marwin to LF, Lowrie to SS, Valbunea to 3B and bring in Carter to play 1B.  That's a lot of movement.

With 22 home runs, that ties his career high for a season.
Of course with 21 home runs, he was tied with his career low for a season.

Hope this series is a confidence-builder for the club on the road.

Going into today, this Astros @ Yankees series was reminding me of the Astros @ Yankees series of 2003.  A close Astros loss, followed by an awesome Astros win that was embarrassing for the Yankees (the 6-man no-hitter in 2003, 15-1 in 2015).  Except in 2003, the Yankees came back and won Game 3 to win the series.   That series in 2003 was always a microcosm of the entire season to me.  So much talent, but not good enough to make it.   That Yankees team went to the World Series, and the Astros missed the playoffs.

The 3rd game means so much.  Astros winning 6-2.

P.S. A moment to remember that the 3rd game in 2003 was started by the late Jeriome Robertson, who you might remember died in a motorcycle accident in 2010.   Jeriome Robertson is famous for winning 15 games as a rookie for Houston in 2003, and being traded for Luke Scott before the 2004 season.

Depends on what kind of saving we're talking about.

If I was being saved from a nursing home or All You Can Eat Buffet - Joe West

From a butch biker gang - Jim Joyce

From the Blue Oyster - Angel Hernandez.

From a gang of enraged blind people - CB Bucknor.

Just general principal -  Tim McClelland, horrible strike call being ignored for his overall body of work.

I thought they said on radio that that's the first road series win since April.  Is that right?

They swept a 2-game set in Colorado in June.  Before that, San Diego.

Brown said this team is the first AL team since the '74 Orioles to allow 2 runs or fewer in nine consecutive games. Wow.

First one (3+ games) since late April in San Diego.

Ha everyone is tring to throw together a stat to ignore the 2 game sweep in Colorado.  The 3 game thing is weak though.  2 out of 2 is better than 2 out of 3

Wow indeed.

BTW, that Oriole team was led by Cueller, McNally, Palmer and Grimsley who won 18 that year.

I'm enjoying the shit out of the Evan Gattis interview while smarmy New York, New York plays in the background.

A tip of the cap to BG who believes!

I know Gomez gets some crap, and some of it is deserved, but I saw an interview he did shortly after joining the Astros about how easy it can be for a team to be in first and think they will make the playoffs and then miss them.  He brings some good to the team.    I just have a good feeling, I kind of jokingly told a co-worker at the beginning of the season they would win 90 games.  Here's to hoping I'm right.

Speaking of which, some participating in the Race for the Lid XVII have been eliminated and every win here after will be another elimination game for someone.  I suspect many of those in the 70's and 80's will be happy to "lose" this year.

Way too early, but with 34 games to go, the Magic Number to clinch the division just dropped to 32, with a chance to drop another spot if the Rangers lose to Toronto tonight.

It's August. Let's not start calculating magic numbers just yet

reported that last night,

Hinch said he pulled aside Gomez,  "Again, its' something we continually — we talk to our players all the time. I don't need someone to come up and have a daily interaction with him," Hinch said. "But I wanted to make sure his head was on straight and we were going to finish the game and we were in they middle of a very positive game for us so I didn't want any more attention taken away from the scoreboard and finishing th game. So I talked to him in the middle of the game and it was a non-issue for me."

Rasmus too, cut the crap.  All of em, middle of a positive game?  They're in the homestretch of a positive season.  No time to fall apart.

It is not falling apart. Pennant races and playoff games are incredibly tense and intense. This is going to happen on every team in the race.

Here's an interesting web page that's well beyond my understanding of statistical analysis, but according to the linked chart Rasmus leads the league in called third strikes that are actually out of the strikezone.

Today's two were especially awful. If Rasmus swings at either of those, it's a flailing strike out at best and a double play ball or worse.

Rabbit ears umpires need to just shut the hell up and call the baseball game. If you're going to blow calls, players are going to be frustrated. Keep your head out of the dugouts.

In the middle innings Gomez laid down a bunt and sprinted up the line to first. The bunt went foul. When  Gomez returned to the plate McCann picked up his bat and politely handed to him.

Fuck Sam Holbrook.

He has no fucking clue where the bottom of the strikezone is, and the fact he tossed Rasmus for taking two terrible pitches that weren't strikes and now is bending Neshek over just proves it even more.

If it weren't for Holbrook correctly seeing and calling Brad Ausmus' game tying home run in the 9th inning of Game 4 of the 2005 NLDS, I'd hate him more.
