Fielder sure did watch that long fly ball before starting to run.  I guess he's just that confident in his speed.

Speaking of beards, the red beard on Straily is not a strong look. Also, the heavier Hamilton looks like Seth Rogan.

Does the accent above the 'o' in Gómez alter the pronounciation? i.e. not Goh-mez.

Fielder homerun
Beltre flies out to right
4 pitch walk to Moreland....

settle down Mr Straily

...Hamilton pops it up to Altuve

Rasmus loses a line drive over his head, Correa bobbles the relay but Moreland had gone back to third

....then Straily sails the first pitch and gets a lucky bounce back to Castro.  3rd out can't come soon enough

Holy shut Straily is living on the edge.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

But, it does drive me crazy.

no, i know i would say it as though the g is an h, the same as I would a j.  i am assuming that they told him how to pronounce his name.  there are quite a few spanish names that I think are pronounced wrong.

In Spanish the accent falls on the final syllable unless the word ends in an n, an s or a vowel, in which case the accent falls on the second to last syllable. Accent marks are used to indicate that the accent is irregular to the above rules, José Giménez, for example. They do not affect pronunciation.

I sat behind Geraldine Perez in school  I know how to pronounce her name.  The first time I heard it pronounced perEZ I was shocked.

Every Spaniard I ever knew also treated a "z" the same as an "s". It's "Her-NAN-dez" and "Rod-RI-guez"

I hate to agree with Ashby, but I don't think MarGo was in position.

Ashby has been agreeing with everything Blum has been saying.  He doesn't seem to have a clue as to how to play baseball.

I'm puzzled by the fact that the same people who say JIMinez also say perEZ.

And "Cha-VEZ". Though I'm perfectly fine with poo-HOLES.

For some etymological reason every -ez ending Spanish surname that I can think of has its emphasis on the second to last syllable. For that reason in written Spanish they all require a tilde: Hernández, Rodríguez, Gómez, Henríquez, Bermúdez, etcétera.

I was taught those were accents, and a tilde is the squiggly mark that goes over an "n".  Is that different in Panama?

I grew up thinking the same thing, but it turns out that a tilde is an accent mark as well as a squiggly thing. Fucking Spanish, yo. A finger is the same thing as a thumb and a thumb is the same thing as a toe.

Whatever reason, that's the way they all spelled it. I knew more guys named "Gonzales" than I could shake a stick at.

My mother is/was a "Valencia", so we didn't have that problem.

My wife will every once in a while hazard a walk-through the area where I'm watching a baseball game. Sometimes I'll gleefully shout out an Ashbyesque pronunciation of a Latin player's name - JIMinez, Rall EYEbanez, Josey Altuvy, etcétera. She usually stops and looks at me like I've lost my mind.

Odor reached on bunt single to pitcher
Fielder flied out to right
Harris relieved Sipp
Beltre flied out to center, Odor to second
Moreland popped out to third

3-4 Rangers after 7.  Like to get them right here in the 8th

4 pitch inning.  3 ground balls.  those pitches must have looked fat.

If Ashby ripped the "caveman" nickname from here, it would give me such immense pleasure since it would logically imply he also had to wade through all of Mark's pointed vitriol.  Unlikely, I know, but one can hope.

geesh, 5 pitches and done.  all ground outs.  The weakness of Diekman was his lack of control.  would have been nice to take a strike

He threw 2 balls and the Astros grounded out on the other 3 pitches.  The guy has walked 25 in 39 innings this year.  Not a good approach against him

That's what it feels like to have the best SS in the game.

I took my kid in to the doctors office today to draw blood for some work he's supposed to have done around his first birthday. It was a fucking Fellini circus in there and despite traumatizing the little guy, his mother and his grandmother they never got any blood out of him. I had a few choice remarks for the staff and the administration and so on, but on the way back my mind was wandering and it occurred to me that if things go well my son will reach adolescence and possibly beyond and not know of a time when Correa wasn't the team's shortstop.

if altuve can get a single, it should be the lead.

Two innings they had the tying run at 3B with nobody out, and couldn't punch a run across in six tries.
