Tri-City 2015
« on: June 19, 2015, 10:11:59 am »
NYPL action kicks off tonight at the V-Cats take on the Connecticut Tigers.

Although there was a preliminary roster floating around on twitter the other day, still waiting on a more current one to show up on the website. Here's an article in the Albany Times-Union which talks about some of the players on the squad. It notes Cuban defector (signed during the offseason) RHP Rogelio Armenteros will start tonight's game while RHP David Paulino (acquired from the Tigers as the PTBNL in the Jose Veras trade back in Sept 2013 and coming off TJS which caused him to miss 2014) will start Saturday.

RHP David Paulino (acquired from the Tigers as the PTBNL in the Jose Veras trade back in Sept 2013 and coming off TJS which caused him to miss 2014) will start Saturday.

Paulino's first start in nearly two years (he last pitched in a game that counted on July 13, 2013): 5 scoreless innings with just 4 hits allowed and 4 K/0 W.

Terrific performance again for Armenteros: 5 IP 3 H 0 ER 0 W 7 K. 13 K/3 W in 9.2 innings over 1st 2 starts.

Tandem-mate Elieser Hernandez also with a strong start to the season: 12 whiffs, 0 walks, 0 ERs over first 6.2 frames. Posted a 0.99 WHIP and 42 Ks in 45.2 IP last year in the GCL/Appy.

They've had an incredible run of digging up successful pitchers in the lower levels this year.

I wonder how far $10K goes there.

Well at least he'll be able to brag to fellow V-Cat Scott Weathersby (10th round) that he got twice his bonus.

30th round pick Bobby Wernes assigned to TRC after his signing becomes official.

INF Jeffry Santos, who came over from the White Sox last year for Bobby Doran, has been released.

Elieser Hernandez whiffed 10 of the 13 hitters he faced tonight, allowing just 1 hit over 4 innings. The 20 y/o Venezuelan has struck out a very silly 28 batters in just 15.2 IP on the year. He has yet to walk anyone.

Don't know if that is what they call him but it is what I call him.  A local guy dropped it when the transaction happened and I immediately stole it.

I don't know but he is about as country as they come.  He has a very slow Georgia drawl. The ValleyCat fans will love it.

Dex McCall now has hits in 15 of his last 16 games, including 4 today. Now batting .391/.432/.507. That BA leads the NYP.

Both a late-rounder (31st, 2014) and a guy who appears to be defensively-limited having played only 1B and DH in 1 1/2 seasons.
