Prayers to her and her family - specifically her son.

On Wed night someone at MMP got drilled on the 3B side.  I couldn't see much from the 1B side other than the O's throwing towels up onto the dugout (presumably for blood) and people frantically looking for assistance from medical personnel.

It does seem that things like this are happening more but I'm also fairly certain it's perception.

Narrow foul lines, harder throwers, skinnier bats. You're probably right Fredia.

People being on phones and whatnot also plays a factor in how often it happens I would think. Really hope she recovers

I'm sure I'm a wuss, but it baffles me that the netting doesn't extend further. Sure, you lose the foul balls, but if you don't care about getting a foul, the netting doesn't hurt the view.  I'm rarely in those seats at MLB, but in the minor leagues, I'll get behind the net as I can relax better.

The ballpark of my hometown Lo-A team (Greensboro) now has 6 ft.-high (or so) netting extending along the 1B and 3B lines into the OF. Had seats there recently and I hated it - had to move because the netting was so distracting (maybe due mostly to the angle).

So while the injury this fan suffered sounds terrible, I hope that we don't end up with netting like that in every ballpark. Hopefully they continue to refine bat-making technology and guidelines so that they don't splinter and break as much. A broken-off barrel spinning into the stands is a scary thing for sure.

It must be the angle. When I sit behind home and face it at 90 degrees, I honestly don't notice its presence.

Rosenthal reports players have pushed for additional netting in last 2 rounds of CBA negotiations (2007 and 2012) but owners have shot it down both times.

I saw a fan at an Oiler game in the early 90s collapse and die of a heart attack in the seat in front of me.  Dude was in his 40s.

Obviously different deal though.
