Hernandez with a nice first inning, striking out the side, but it took 20 minutes. Hopefully it's not another slow motion marathon tonight.

Altuve doesn't look lost, exactly, but he's not making the kind of contact that we're accustomed to.

Wow, thank you A's for sending your slow guy with 1 out. Castro made a very nice play on that short hop.

Good defense there to cut down a runner at the plate. Nice glove work by Castro to handle that throw and make the tag.

Now another play at the plate, after Hernandez is too slow to cover 1B on a routine grounder to 1B...under review...confirmed. Two outs the plate that inning.

No score.

He's been going after first pitches a lot lately, so this time he sat back and watched. Of course, it was pretty hittable, and he never saw another good pitch.

He certainly could be more selective, maybe walk more. He has such great hand eye coordination and timing, he'll be an even better player when he learns some plate discipline.

Burns with a broken bat single, but is picked off before the next pitch. He was safe at 2nd, but a really awkward slide had him roll off the bag and Altuve kept the glove on him.

Altuve steals second, but the umpires are inexplicably allowing Melvin a second challenge. Overturned, Altuve out.

I can only speculate that he "suggested" a review rather than "demanded" it?  Still, I agree with Ashby...that's a distinction without a difference.

a lot of players moved through Houston during that time.  I thought they were talking about Wilfredo Rodriguez at first.

That's the old Abad we know and love. Rasmus with a dinger of the 2-run flavor. Astros up 5-2 now.

On a side note, the Rockets game started a full hour *after* the Astros game is in the final minute.

I can only speculate that he "suggested" a review rather than "demanded" it?  Still, I agree with Ashby...that's a distinction without a difference.

A's announcers said that the crew chief called for the replay.

I think McBrag tweeted the manager can ask for it, but it's up to the ump to decide to get the replay or not in that situation.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)
