Nice to see Gattis picking it up...   It is good to see the guys getting more confident.

Marwin had a great at bat to get on base too.. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Altuve switching spots..

Marwin is too slow for leadoff. He might be too slow for 2.

He's definitely too slow for NL ball, but I'm not so sure for AL ball.     Especially if he just gets on base.

Brad MIller hitting .250 on the year and hitting in the 9 spot.

Lines one into the corner and Miller legs it out into a triple by the time Springer gets it back into the infield.

Ackley scores to make it 3-1.

Jackson grounds out to Carter who looks Miller back at 3rd and tosses to Hernandez covering.  Jackson manages to step on Hernandez' foot and twists his ankle.   Looks pretty painful.

Noticeable breeze picking up..

Wow.. Smith flies out to Springer who gets the ball in to Castro who seems to get the tag on him before his foot hit the plate..

Challenge ensues

And Springer leads off after that great play in the top half,

Grounds down the first base line and stretches it to a double.

Right fielder airmails the throw and Springs is safe by a long shot..

This just in.. Springer is fast.

Marwin really should have taken second on the throw to the plate as Jose was going into third.   If he had been standing on second Springers line shot would have made it past Morrison and scored Marwin.

I was at a game once with my mom. We were in the Club Level for some reason. There was a whole row of fat fuckers right in front of us who decided that the best time to pop up and get some snacks was just when the first pitch of any given half inning was about to be made. I got into it with this one bitch who, to her credit, started her future snack runs as the third out was being made. On her first such snack run she turned around and sarcastically asked me if this was OK with me. I assured her it was. I then told my mom that she was going to come back with a plastic hat full of ice cream topped with colorful sprinkles. My mom scoffed. But guess what?

Had a heckuva jump too.  It took a perfect throw, and a perfect throw was what Castro made.

Jonathan Villar.. 0-2 on the day..
Grounds one deep in the hole but is thrown out by the shortstop as he dives into first..

Quick three outs means I can stay on for another half-inning.

Astros lead 6-2 after 6.

Kyle Seager is 0-2 on the day..

Lines one back toward Hernandez who gets his glove up in time to defend himself..   Lucero comes out to check on Hernandez who seems fine..

Infield hit for Seager..

6-3 now and Hinch brings in Sipp.

6-5 Astros as Weeks stands on 2nd with no outs.

Update Hernandez line with 5 runs.

I could see him coming out for the 7th just to see if you get lucky, but the first time somebody drilled a ball off of him, he needed to be yanked. Leaving him in to pitch to Zunino just because he's right-handed was not a good plan.

No. The first one was a bad relay. He was upset by the slide and it ticked off his glove. No way to blame him for that.

We all know that I'm fucking nuts. I don't necessarily think that you can get swing-and-miss stuff from a five; that'd be a lot to ask from such a pitcher. I just don't care for Hernandez, but he's our best option right now.

Obie should be activated in a couple of weeks I would think. They say they are encouraged by Wojo making adjustments they are working with him on. I don't think they are really comfortable with Deduno in the rotation and partly because they like him in the pen.

Sure looked like pretty good throw to me, one that he has stop.  I'll look at the replay again.

He was scrambling to hop over the top of the runner, and the throw glanced off the tip of his glove (which prevented Fausto from knocking it down and keeping it out of the dugout). You can argue that maybe he should have been on the inside of the runner, but given where he was and where the throw went, I don't think he had a very good chance at stopping it.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Cards are 18-6.

Yes, but that's the NL.  That doesn't count.

He was scrambling to hop over the top of the runner, and the throw glanced off the tip of his glove (which prevented Fausto from knocking it down and keeping it out of the dugout). You can argue that maybe he should have been on the inside of the runner, but given where he was and where the throw went, I don't think he had a very good chance at stopping it.

no, you cannot argue that. if he was inside, the runner's slide would have crossed the line of the relay throw,

Marwin got the error.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Exactly.  You never want to let the runner get between you and the ball.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
