Twice through the new-for-this-year 6-man rotation seems like a good time for a quick early-season recap.
That rotation consists of Thommy Shirley (2-0, 3.86), Jake Buchanan (1-0, 3.27), Dan Straily (2-0, 5.40), Brady Rodgers (0-1, 13.50), Luis Cruz (0-1, 9.00) and Alex White (0-1, 9.72). Buchanan replaced Peacock in the rotation when he was activated, and someone will probably move to the bullpen when Oberholtzer is ready for a rehab assignment. With only 8 base runners (6 hits, 1 BB and 1 HBP) in 11 innings, Jake figures to keep his spot. The bullpen has not fared well so far, with Jordan Jankowski and the injured Jason Stoffel sporting the only sub-4.00 ERAs and the only sub-1.50 WHIPs. Gonzalo Sanudo has looked especially overmatched in his 2 outings since being called on to replace Stoffel.
At the plate, Preston Tucker (.378/.440/.756 with 5 HR), Jon Singleton (.310/.408/.619 with 3 HR), Matt Duffy (.356/.370/.511) and LJ Hoes (.361/.410/.556 with 5 doubles) have all excelled. Domingo Santana (.242/.324/.485) continues to struggle with 16 K in 37 PA, and Nolan Fontana (.290/.463/.484) continues to lead the world in patience with 10 BB in 42 PA.
Everyone seems to be getting some chances in the field. The only players appearing in 75% of the games (9) at one position are Max Stassi (C), Singleton (1B), and Fontana (SS). The most common outfield arrangement (left-to-right) is Tucker (7), Andrew Aplin (5) and Santana (8 ), but Alex Presley has started 4 games in CF and LJ Hoes has started 8 games spread pretty evenly among the three positions. In the infield, Joe Sciafani is getting the most appearances at 2B (7) and Matt Dominguez is the semi-regular at 3B (7), but also has 2 appearances at 1B. Ronald Torreyes has seen action at both 2B (5) and SS (3) while Matt Duffy has appeared in 5 games at 3B while seeing a lot of AB at DH. Luis Flores is the backup at C with the least playing time so far. Ruben Sosa is on the roster, but has not yet been activated.
