Walk Up Music
« on: March 20, 2015, 01:57:09 pm »
My son just got called up from JV to Varsity.  One of the privileges of moving up is you get walk up music at home games.  If you had walk up music, what song would you want:

1 - From you high school days
2 - Current stage of life.

Go
Always ready to go to a game.

High School: Also Sprach Zarathustra. (Deodato jazz version)

Now: Nothing.  These days I just want some god damn peace and quiet.

Oh man.  The high school question's almost too embarrassing to consider.  Know that my answer now is only partially true.  My real answer at 16 would've been something ska-related.

High School: Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) - SRV and Double Trouble
Now: Backseat Freestyle - Kendrick Lamar

High School:  Get In The Ring by GNR though I think it would have been vetoed by the school.  Otherwise it would have been Give it Away by the Chili Peppers

Today: Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band

Then - Hey Man Nice Shot - Filter
Now - When I'm Sixty Four - The Beatles

The first because I always thought that would be cool walk up music, the second because that's pretty much what I feel like now.

1.  I'm a Man.  the Chicago version, just because it's what I listened to in high school.
2.  Magic.  Bruce Springsteen.

You know, I think that first CTA album is under-appreciated. The percussion and the horns are first-rate, particularly on "I'm a Man".

They were a great band up 'til the moment Terry Kath decided to play around with a loaded gun.

My second voice was Saturday in the Park. I did love I'm a man though.

From high school:  Led Zeppelin's When The Levee Breaks

Today:  Probably the same things.  That's still an awesome fucking tune.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Hell yeah.  First 2 things I thought of were that and the drum intro from Hot For Teacher.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

In High School: "American Pie" - Don McLean ("Ah, do you believe in Rock and Roll... can music save your mortal soul... and can you teach me how to dance real slow... oh I know you're in love with him... cause I saw you dancing in the gym... you both kicked off your shoes... man I dig those rhythm and blues!")

In Amatuers (MSBL): "Should I Stay or Should I Go" - The Clash

Now: "One Time, One Night in America" - Los Lobos ("A wise was telling stories to me, about the places he had been and the things he had done...")

Two opening riffs I've always wanted to hear over the PA:

HS: Pearl Jam - Alive
Now: Radiohead - Airbag
Don't think twice, it's alright.
