Jason Castro has become quite the whiner on called strikes against him. Never his fault, always the umps. That's a troubling development, IMO.

I'm wondering when, in the ninth inning of a one-run game, has a manager let a reliever walk four batters in a row.

When I say, as I do occasionally, that the Astros are not trying to win this is what I mean. That they literally are not trying to win.

Also, on another of my favorite topics, I tune in to hear the soothing, familiar sound of Dierk's voice. Literally the second I tune in I find that he and Ash are talking about hot dogs. Fuck me, I mean, seriously. The Astros don't care about winning? That's fine. I don't care if they win. BUT QUIT TALKING ABOUT FOOD, FUCK.

Although it was awfully nice to hear Dierker call the game.

I am going to Kalgoorlie for a couple of days and probably wont check the scores, it is getting too hard to think about these guys again. Not sure if they have hot dogs in Kal? I will let you know when I have found out.

I've been to Kalgoorlie. It kind of looks like an Old West town. I remember a large antique piece of furniture in a shop's foyer on the main street through town. According to a plaque, it was given around the turn of the (last) century by an American engineer to the ladies of one of the town's better brothels. The engineer, who worked in the local mining industry for a time, was named Herbert Hoover.

Still a lot of mining in the area.

I worked the last couple of days at the Mining Hall of Fame in Kal, I see Herbie is enshrined there. Apparently his contribution was in mine engineering and financial structure in mining, no mention of brothels.
