There's an offensive hole in LF. Soriano had 66 homers in 2012-2013.

He's also 38. Thoughts?

Yeah, I'm sure he's a nice guy, but as far as veterans setting examples go, you don't really want Springer, Singleton, et al watching a guy like that at the plate and thinking "So that's how a successful Major Leaguer does it..."

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, no I don't want Soriano, but on the other, I don't think you can overstate what a black hole Grossman is in the lineup. It can't be good for anything. Soriano's not a long term answer, but I think building some sort of winning mindset and morale will help this team. Soriano would be an on-field upgrade and would undoubtedly countribute to a few wins. But he's not the only one.

Okay, I agree that Grossman has descended into Marc Krauss no field no hit territory and has no business being on the roster. If this team had someone who simply produced in LF at J.D. Martinez's production last season, we'd be in far better shape. Maybe Soriano wouldn't be so bad...

I just can't help but think that lack of anything is affecting the team. I may be wrong, but it seems that even little bits of encouragement go a long with with these guys. Even a little bit could really help.

I absolutely agree. The black hole that has been LF (and 1B for most of the season) all season has definitely negatively impacted the club.

After the ASB I expect the outfield to be devoid of Grossman with Springer, Fowler (returning from the DL), and Hernandez there instead.

I hope so. Still, I can't help but think a veteran 5th outfielder would help. Maybe it's not Soriano, but someone.

It's not like we are fighting for a playoff spot. Let the young guys play. But even if we were Pierzynski would be a bad idea. My guess is that there is a reason he was cut loose other than his bat.

It is widely rumored that the Boston pitching staff had been in favor of this move for over a month. When you don't get along with your catcher, it negatively impacts your pitching.
