Texans = Astros?
« on: March 13, 2014, 08:53:29 am »
They cut OD.  Not happy.  Especially as they are, reportedly, struggling to come to terms with Garrett Graham - who now knows he has them over a barrel.  They're also struggling to get interest from free agents.

Meanwhile, they just sent me a offer to lock-in my season ticket pricing if I guarantee that I will buy my seats for 5 or 10 years.  This makes me wonder what the ambitions are for that time frame.  The optics of this are terrible.  They may be planning on tanking again this year, at least, to garner more high picks.

And in the first day free agent frenzy they signed...nobody.  When was the last time this team made a splash in the free agent or trade market?  Schaub?

That's right.  Kick a man (in the nads) while he's down.

@MarkBermanFox26: Texans agreed to terms with free agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

No idea what this means in terms of team direction, but my guess is schaub can pack his bags and a QB will be selected in rd 1 or 2

As expected Schaub to Oakland:

I think this means that all of his cap hit happens this year which is probably not a terrible thing.

Yes.  I believe they had to keep him past June 1 to avoid a full cap hit.

That's right - all this year.  But they will still save ~$4 MM this year with the transaction....so they'll be back at ~$10 MM of cap space.

That $4 million in savings is taken up by Fitzpatrick.

Yup.  Plus they get a pick.  Not sure it's a bad deal, but at least they got something for Pick Six.  Plus, I like the idea of eating the full amount of dead money this year instead of a June 1 option.  They aren't going to be a playoff team this year, but they're trying to re-load quickly.

If Schaub's picks drove you nuts, wait til you get a load of Fitzpatrick.  He's an interception throwing machine.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Yes, he is...I've frustratingly watched him the last to years because of receivers he was throwing to were on my team.  The differnece is he is making $4 MM per year and is likely a back-up or bridge while Schaub was a starter getting $10+ per year.

Local tradition mandates three #1 picks in a row.  If Fitzpatrick actually plays his full two season contract that will be achieved.

Why on earth would I care that the guy throwing picks makes $4MM or $400MM?  They're gonna suck the same.

I'm surprised Oakland wanted Schaub. Maybe it's some kind of payback or reward for a previous good deed done. It was never the same after that.
