Go-To Sports Page
« on: February 02, 2014, 09:13:13 am »
I've pretty much had it with ESPN.  From their announcers and so-called political correctness to their obvious favoritism of certain sports, I can't bear to keep using their site.  I've been using them for so long, I'm use to their layout, which seems maneuverable enough if you can find anything worth reading.  I've used them as a home page for probably ten years, and now even the home page plays videos automatically.  Fox Sports page looks hard to maneuver and strange, but it could just be today for the Superbowl.  Are there any sites that are straight forward and contain stories (reporting) that are relevant to the sports world left?   Are there any sites worthy of being a home page?  What do you use and why?

I always use a blank page as my home page on my desktop. I use google (type 'NBA scores') to check scores on my desktop, or I use my phone (ESPN and Yahoo have some well-behaved apps). I use cbssports.com to check sports news. Its slow to load, but no videos or audio. Yahoo has messed up my.yahoo.com again, so I probably won't use it again till next fantasy football season. Espn does have a lot of content, so its unavoidable.

I use netvibes as my home page and set up my own sports tab with as many sources as I can get on there. I can then choose which ones to click through to stories I want to see. Right now I have ESPN, CBS, NBC, SI and Yahoo along with sports pages of different local papers.

I also have local, national and world news tabs and a music and entertainment tab. It functions the same as my.yahoo only better.

Once setup, this looks to be the possible answer.

Yeah, it takes a bit of tweaking to set up how you like it but once it's set, it's very easy and thorough.

This netvibes thing looks gooder'n hell. I too am totally put off by the trend of having videos on most every page. I don't know who's behind it but they need to be stopped.

Videos earn priority on search engines.

Can't stand the new format, annoying as hell...

+1.  That thing is hideous.  I have changed my home page.
