Gold Cup

USA certainly has to be favored to win the tournament at this point.  The set play for the first goal was phenomenally executed and loved the EJ goal. If the El Salv keeper didn't put on an EPL type performance, US could have scored 8 today.

Wait..this thread *is* about strip clubs, right?
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Exactly.

Team USA has looked pretty damn good lately though, I'm excited even if its just the Gold Cup.

8 in a row and counting for the USMNT.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I'm excited mostly about the depth they are showing.  That will be a major difference in Brazil v. South America or Germany.

Altidore impressed me a lot with his work up front. His ability to maintain the ball control when the defender is trying to knock him off the ball is something new for Team USA. In the past, most strikers or forwards were easily taken off the ball by the more stronger defenders, like the Brazilian or German back line. With Altidore, it's going to take a lot more than just a shove in the back to take him off the ball. That is huge in international play and releases Donovan and other smurf-like skilled players to roam around and do some damage when the ball comes to them from Altidore.

I like what Jurgen Klingsman is doing for the squad by making the emphasis a strong front line that distributes as well as look for their opportunity to score.

Saw this stat the other day.  In Klinsmans first 26 games the US scored 32 goals.  They have scored 31 goals in the last 9 games, and have gone 9-0.

No kidding.  There we a ton of fouls away from the ball as well that probably didn't make it on TV.  CONCACAF reps are sitting behind me and they fucking heard about it.

The turf is not good. Tons of visible seems. Lots of slips and the ball is bouncing abnormally high.

Still pissed at EJ for the yellow.  Why the need to do that?  Do they wipe clean yellows for the final?

Don't know. I can't seem to find an answer on the intertoobs. I wonder if Klinsmann will be allowed to coach on Sunday since he got sent off by that joke of a referee.

And just like that, Panama misses another golden opportunity and then forgets to play defense and concedes the tying goal.

I'd be happier going into the half 2-0 but the missed opportunity and the horrific defensive lapse bother me less than the horrible yellow called on Negritillo. But there it is and you have to live with it.

This is an interesting tournament for me to watch. Julio Dely made some very interesting roster decisions, leaving the team's best defender by far off the team (Felipe Baloy of Santos Laguna), the team's all-time leading goal scorer (Luis Tejada of Veracruz) also off the team, the team's most explosive midfielder (Nelson Barahona of Itagüí in Colombia)... He's trying to see if Roberto Chen can take Baloy's place sometime in the future (don't know yet but I hope so), if Gabriel Torres can replace Tejada immediately (he can) and if a reconfigured midfield helps (it does).

I want to win this game and this tournament badly but it means absolutely nothing to me compared to the World Cup. If the lineup tinkering and the reasonably good play of late translate into a better performance in the qualifying than we've seen lately then I'm happy.

I think it's still subject to review by some board, and they can decide not to let him on the sidelines because of "unacceptable behavior", or some shit like that. I hope they'll also review "incompetent refereeing" while they're at it.

Yes, word is that there is an 11 person CONCACAF committee that meets to determine whether he is suspended or not, takes 24-48 hours.

He said a couple things along the lines of "that's unbelievable" according to the lip readers. Apparently the straw that broke the camel's back was throwing a ball down against the ground. This referee was pretty much the Angel Hernandez of soccer referees.

Great for rankings, which actually matter for the WC pools.  Should be about 17-18th.

I feel terrible for Stu.

Not Gold Cup news but Aron Johannsson has declared his intention to play for the USMNT.  He played alongside Altidore at AZ last year and will be their #1 striker this year with Jozy moving to the EPL.
