Fucking Altuve and his penchant for swinging at the first pitch, grounds into the 5-4-3 twin killing.

Lyles with three ground ball outs in the first frame. So far, so good.

Good God Ashby is awful.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I'm stuck with the Jakes broadcast. They said that Martinez ran into an out at the plate exercising poor judgment.

It was a safety squeeze.  Not poor judgment, though he didn't get a great jump.

Geez, turn the glove over and get in front of the ball Castro.

Lyles goes from 0-2 to the leadoff hitter to a walk, a wild pitch and an RBI single.

Shitfuck.

Double play to end the inning.  Castro, that run is entirely your fault.  You owe me a home run, just get back even.

Of course it was. I thought that was obvious, but apparently not to Al Hrabosky.

Martinez swings at one that almost hits his foot, then at one over his head.  Between him and Castro, they've turned what should be bases loaded, no outs into two outs.

Barnes swings at strike three over his head.  Miller strikes out the side, but I don't think he actually had to throw a strike to do it.

Wasted opportunity.

Again.  This is what separates the Astros from teams that don't have regular 7-game losing streaks.  They simply cannot stomp on the gas.  There are simply too many guys who can't put the ball in play.

Three more ground ball outs for Lyles, who's pitching a nice game.  He'd have a 2-run lead if I were his catcher, but as it is, he's leading 2-1 heading to the 4th.

Gotta get Lyles out of there, skip...can't have a guy in there who's getting tough outs.  Let Wesley Wright face the lefty...

Well fuckshit.

I like Wright. I'm bummed that he's sucked so bad this year.

It's not personal, I like him too, as a person. I just don't see any value there, as a ballplayer.

And that means exactly what when you can't get out either righties or lefties?

Castro did get a double and scored the go ahead run at that point

Edit: wasn't go ahead, but 3rd run

He should be expected to lay off the ones over his head.  And don't get me started about the expectations of all-star catchers and how his poor glove is directly responsible for the Cardinals' first run...

What I'm fucking tired of is Carlos Pena taking up a spot on this club.

Particularly because all they had to do was not stomp on their dicks.

I realize that the Astros are not a good team.  I realize that they are overmatched pretty much every night.  So it's doubly frustrating when they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on the few nights they *should* get a win.

I'm curious... Pena pinch-hit for Barnes. Who would have played CF if the Astros had tied or pulled ahead there? Paredes? Elmore? Pretty weird not to have a legit backup CF on the roster.

Baldemar Huerta watches as Wodan takes a holiday.

Excellent work and story. The canonization process wasn't quite crystallized back then. Local cults could actually just proclaim a saint without Rome even knowing about it. They used to make every pope a saint after death, but that stopped in about the sixth century. Several of the earliest popes are actually included by name in the Canon of the Mass (commonly known today as Eucharistic Prayer No. 1, which is rarely used today except in the Latin Mass).

Just like Biggio in the early days of AC.  I always knew this place was a cult.
