Race for the Lid XV
« on: March 26, 2013, 01:17:27 pm »
You ready... here you go...
RACE FOR THE LID XV
Contest Rules:
________________________________________
1.  Whatever the rules are, BudGirl (your RFTL judge and jury for 2012) can change them any time for any reason, including whim.  The purpose of this rule is not to promote chaos, but to preempt wailing, moaning, whining, and griping.  Particularly griping.
________________________________________
2.  A Pick is determine the number of losses.  Picks above 80 should not win, even if they’re right they’re wrong.  They will be accepted and you can be a winner but no one will like you.
________________________________________
3.  All picks are in this thread.  Picks out of this thread are DQ’d unless BudGirl changes the rules.
________________________________________
4.  One pick per person.
________________________________________
5. If there are gaps in the high picks, say, between 95 and 162, the low pick gets the gaps down to the next highest pick.  This does not work in reverse, i.e., above 95.  We all win if the Astros lose fewer than the low pick.
________________________________________
6. The grand prize, of course, is an Astros cap of BudGirl's choosing from Astros.com.  BudGirl is allowed to make rulings on prize disputes that may arise... namely, she gets to tell you to go to hell if you whine that you should get the prize!
________________________________________
7.  NO PICKS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE OFFICIAL COMMENCEMENT TIME, WHICH IN THIS CIRCULAR DEFINITION WILL BE ON OR ABOUT 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 27th and Close Sunday, March 31st at the first pitch of the Astros first official historical American League game against their natural intra-state rivals (the Official Commencement Time).  Anyone who posts before then will be DQ'd.  No picks will be accepted after the first pitch on Opening Day.  Or thereabouts.
________________________________________
8.  Ron Brand will assist in the verification of picks.  He will also assist in any additional matters determined by BudGirl.
________________________________________
9.  If there is no correct pick BudGirl and Ron Brand will find a winner by a method of their choosing.
________________________________________
10.  Here’s the list of past winners:

2012 – Ebby Calvin
2011 – no winner
2010 - Lurch
2009 - Ron Brand
2008 - EasTexAstro
2007 - no winner
2006  - Fredia
2005  - Drew Corleone
2004  - Andyzipp
2003  - Jim R
2002  - no winner
2001  - Neil T.
2000  - no winner
1999  - Astrobabe

Good Luck and may be the best fan win!

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

99, or alternatively 69.  BudGirl and Ron Brand will determine which entry is appropriate by a method of their choosing.  BudGirl (as our RFTL judge and jury for 2012) can change this decision and/or my entry at any time for any reason, including, but not limited to the following:

whim, caprice, conceit, craze, desire, disposition, dream, fad, fancy, fantasy, freak, humor, impulse, inclination, notion, passing thought, quirk, sport, thought, urge, vagary, vision, and/or whimsy.

Should she so choose, 'just because' would suffice as well.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Of course it would.  However, given my inability to properly use punctuation (primarily apostrophes and commas) and generally bastardized approach to the English language as a whole, I am at loathe to do such things (and even if I somehow did feel need to do so, am certainly not brave enough to have done so in a manner which could even remotely have resulted in drawing the ire of BudGirl. Just sayin'...).

I read the rules. I just try to pick the same number every year. It doesn't make a difference on wins or losses. I would actually be pleasently surprised if my pick were correct (even though it would still mean losing.)

One. They will lose one game. And it will be on purpose, just to remove the pressure of a potential undefeated season heading into the playoffs.

I can add you, if you made the deadline and you win.  Otherwise, I'm not going to worry about it much.

Crap. I swear I checked that 6 months ago. I think since this year is "opposite rules", last pick takes precedence.

7-6 would be a strong way to end the season.  Especially considering the rest of the season is all against teams that are very much in the playoff hunt.

I have a good feeling about the rest of the season.

The club has to go 3-3 for me to win it. No fucking chance. My money is on Fynn. What happens if the club finishes with 109 losses?

But BG is judging this one, so we don't know.

It's going to be a moot point after tonight, because the Astros will have their 109th loss, thereby making the home record worse than the 27-54 road record they compiled with this travelling horseshit show. The Yankmees probably will sweep, leaving the Good Guys at 51-111 and losers of 15 in a row to close it out. Sigh.

As judge and jury of RFTL, You are hereby sentenced to contact me with your choice of lid and delivery address.  Congratulations and may that number never ever fucking win a race for losses for the Astros again.

Well, I hope to God that the winning number next year is nowhere near this.

Big thanks to Budgirl and RB for their unending support of the astros-a helluva job for sure.
