Lyles has made a mess of things in the home third frame, and he's running up a pitch count to boot. He'll learn that strikeouts are wonderful, but they aren't a substitute for pitchability.

Am I wrong to harp on about how bad Greene is at SS? Little range, too many errors or other fuck-ups.

What home-scorer bullshit, calling that a hit. Greene should've had that and turned it into 2 outs. Instead it's run #3.

Then Altuve shows him how to turn a hard-hit ball into a DP.

I chronicled some of his poor stats earlier this season. It's really that bad. And he's dreadful against left-handed hitters, who are smoking him. He's simply got to come up with an answer for them.

I hope that Lyles just learned something from that offspeed pitch to McCutchen.

Alas, Laird can't save him.

Superman and Holt are 6-6 against Lyles tonight. That's six of the seven hits he surrendered in 4.2 frames.

He's terrible. Just claimed Holt was "running with the pitch, with the 3-2 count and 2 outs..." when 1) he was not, in fact, running until after the ball was hit, and 2) you only automatically run on 3-2, 2 outs when you don't have an empty base behind you.

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I just went and looked at the Astros' 2005 draft. You know, the one that yielded McCutchen, Justin Upton, Alex Gordon, Ryan Braun, Troy Tulowitzki, Jay Bruce, Jacoby Ellsbury, and others. Our first-round pick was none other than Mr Happy's fave, Brian Bogusevic. At least he's still around. 1S was Eli Iorg. 2 was Ralph Henriquez (who?).

Notables taken after Bogusevic: Colby Rasmus, Tyler Greene (I think), Clay Bucholz, Jed Lowrie, Chase Headley. And Jordan Shafer!

Just scanning the MLB standings.  The collective win loss record (since each trade) for the teams that made trades with Houston this year is really bad.  Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere

Marlins May 7th (Ruggliano)
26-22 since 34-54

Blue Jays July 20th
46-47 since 14-28

WhiteSox  July 22 (the only survivor)
50-45 since 23-16

Pirates July 24th
54-42 - 17-22

Arizona July 29th
51-51 since 15-19

Yankees Aug 27th
74-53 since 2-6

Actually Tampa is 4-0 since the Francisco trade.  Missed that this even happened

+1 (or maybe that should be "+2") ... Paredes is not an outfielder, and we already saw how bad he was in the infield.  He did look pretty good on the basepaths.

That came through on the tube?  I was there and I could not figure it out.  Very strange.  I thought Pittsburgh was a baseball town, but between the Steelers jersey, the irritating woman behind me yelling "Get real, Astros!" and the yelping/hooting all the time, I don't know what to think now.

It did.  With Laird & Greene in the infield and Paredes taking bad routes to ground balls in the outfield behind them, it's a miracle they ever get anyone out.

Apparently the hooting was started by Dave Raymond. What a fucking tool. I don't attend or watch a baseball game to hear a bunch of idiots who apparently find the game of baseball too boring go "hoo-hooo" at irregular intervals. That really fucking pisses me off. I hope that clueless shithead is not back next year.
