The Coogs
« on: September 03, 2012, 07:36:16 am »
I was there.

Ouch. And ugh. And what the hell? also.

Texas State deserved every bit of that win. Except for an attempt at a defenive rebound in the 2nd half, we looked like roadkill. It was a damn shame.

Oy vey.

Coach Franchione had the Bobcats ready to play. In spite of his shady history, he has had some coaching success.  The Cougars didn't appear prepared or show an ability to adjust. Levine has already thrown under the bus replaced the OC.

If y'all don't mind me asking about TxSt, how did Rutherford look?  He showed flashes of competence last year followed up with long stretches of dick-stepping.  I was hoping Arndt would start at QB after being fully healed, but did Rutherford show much weakness?

They've already fired ("accepted the resignation of") their OC after one game?

Bad, bad sign for the head man.

A disastrous start for Levine.

How does this even happen?  How does one have enough support to be hired but no advocates when shit hits the fan day 1?

I thought the same thing. Something really smells about this one, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a backstory here.

Perhaps chaconian measures were taken after the game

Who knows. I just think that if the head coach doesn't have a longer rope than one game, UH will neither improve nor ever hire any decent coaches.

No idea, but it's about the level of support that gets a special teams coach with no OC or DC experience hired as the head coach of a program coming off their best 3? year stretch in 30 years.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

It starts with hiring a Marketing guy to run the athletic department in the hopes that he can raise enough interest and cash to build a new stadium. Every hire that Rhoades has made to this point has been shit. I like Tony Levine as a person, but it's becoming painfully obvious that he and the entire staff were put together with a paper thin budget. All of he momentum that Briles, Sumlin and Keenum brought to the football program are at risk if the situation doesn't get better soon.

He looked very good in the first half. Good decisions with the option and in the passing game. He threw crisp, accurate throws. Now, he was much better on the move (designed roll outs) vs. in the pocket and once UH started to get a little pressure on him in the pocket, he didn't do as well. UH got their shit together on defense at halftime and pretty much shut TSt down in the second half. Hard to get a read on the game because of the ineptness of UH, but as a Bobcat fan, I would definitely say there is cause for optimism.

Thanks Mikey, that's unnervingly similar to what he looked like last year.  I'll remain cautiously optimistic that his surrounding weapons have improved.  I give them a zero percent chance of defeating Tech this week however.

From a teebox in Augusta, Georgia, Frank Broyles was alleged to have called the move over-reactionary.

Is Levine this bad, or was the recruiting of Summlin not up to par? Some kind of combination of those? No knock on TXSt. It's just that the Cougars should not have dropped like this. Then again, hearkening to the season sans Keenum--injury year--maybe he was irreplaceable.

Piland went 17 for 44 on passes. That just... how do you do that? Ain't like he's never played college ball before.

I find myself in a spot where I have been several times in the past, as many Coog fans can also attest.

I guess if we're gonna suck, we may as well do it on a grand scale. Hello, Big East.

There is nothing grand about the Big East, at least as far as football is concerned.
