New unis
« on: August 20, 2012, 10:27:23 am »
I know there has been a lot of specualtion on this topic (orange?) but I have one question: Does anyone have an idea on the expected release date and timing?  I'm assuming before Christmas.  There will have to be a lot of physical work done to MMP in addition to new caps, etc.

The changes have been approved, but they can't be announced until after the season, and I assume not until after the World Series.

Having said that, they will start working on the stadium changes around 10pm on September 26th.

I was going to make a bad joke about waiting until we'd finished with the playoffs, but I just don't have the heart.

I suspect they'd like to have the new unis and apparel available for the Christmas season.

I was at a game in Highbury ten years ago or so, late November, and the PA fellow was announcing the release of a new CD of the team song or whatever it was, 'Available in record shops just after Christmas!'

I was at the games this weekend and there was a massive sell-off of everything, including lots of game worn jerseys.  Virtually everything with an Astros logo on it was 40% off.

SportsLogos.net has a source that says the new unis will be orange and blue (as expected) and "borrowing elements from past designs but with a modern twist." Describes the hat as the H on a star, but with the H in a different font. Jersey is similar to late '60s, but without the shooting star (which seems like it sort of misses the point).

While I agree the shooting star would be awesome, I think the point is to simplify. My only real beef with the current set is that they're too busy. Classic uniforms should be timeless, not looking like any particular decade or trend. That's why anything with rainbow in it, sleeves or gut, is god-awful hideous. I'm just hopeful that the suits are simple enough to be classic.

It's more pronounced, not silent like the old H.

I could live with the simple, yet classic Houston uniforms pictured.  I like the shooting star but realize that's some what dated.

Really hope they don't use one of those 'modern' laundry-detergent fonts.  Shooting stars are simple and awesome.  I love the rainbow, but it's definitely not an everyday uni.

While this all sounds very promising, I really don't understand the motivation to redesign the logo.  Why not keep the classic "H" with the orange star?  I also thought moving the AL softball league was fucking stupid, so what the hell do I know?

Calm down!  They're using the classic "H".  They're just putting a "D" in front of it.

So, that silhouette on the ad for the uni/logo launch party? It's a shot of Jordan Lyles, and it actually reveals quite a bit of the uniforms when brightened. It looks like they're gonna be pretty sharp. Check it out here.

This. I'm worried that without the star, the jersey remains too bland (though still better than brick and sand). Will refrain from judgement until we see final product, though.

From what I can see it reminds me of the Rangers' uni, which has only the word 'Texas' on it in a similar block script. How unusual would it be for Crane to go with something like that?

Yeah, I kind of agree. If you're going to go with piping, navy would be better. I just think the primary color should be navy, with the orange only as an accent.

I agree, I think the orange piping looks amateurish. Glad we didn't get our hopes up for something nice.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

Baseball's nearly over. I've got so much more time to be an asshole now.

I like the new unis.

I'm not forming an opinion until I've seen the full set(s).

I don't like them.  I've checked with Miss Lola and she says not enough sass.  I agree completely.

I do not apply this to all areas of life.  (e.g.: Kate Upton)
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
