Your lineups (noteworthy is that they're obviously pitying us, resting Goldschmidt and starting Overbay; for us, CJ is your cleanup hitter du jour and Marwin Gonzalez is back in there, which must mean that they just held him out a day as a precaution given the possible aggravation of his foot injury):

Astros

2BJose Altuve
SSMarwin Gonzalez
1BScott Moore
3BChris Johnson
RFBrian Bogusevic
LFJustin Maxwell
CFJordan Schafer
CCarlos Corporan
PJordan Lyles

Pythons

RF Gerardo Parra
SS Stephen Drew
2B Aaron Hill
LF Jason Kubel
C Miguel Montero
CF Chris Young
1B Lyle Overbay
3B Ryan Wheeler
P Josh Collmenter

BTW, I'm setting the official long-balls-off-of-Lyles number today at three. Pray that they are all solo shots and that our offense can generate at least four runs. Direct your prayers to the patron saint of lost causes.

Marwin Gonzalez with another good at-bat and a hit. He's a keeper. Rhiner Cruz, eh, not so much.

Have to work today. I'm stuck with DoRay.
Hope the Astros win anyway.

We can give a little pbp if you need it. I understand that DoRay have a tendency to forget to apprise the audience what is going on in the game.

I can't remember another pitcher that has given up so many foul pole HRs.  Either that or my memory is clouded with the Pittsburgh start a few weeks ago.

Nice inning from Lyles, including not shying away from Kubel just because Kubel took him deep. For makeup, this kid grades out through the roof. He just really needs to work on facing left-handed hitters and how to keep the ball in the yard.

It's pretty hard to hit that ball up at your eyeballs, even if you're a good hitter. Marwin may want to consider letting that one go next time.

I have no idea what that refers to, and frankly, I'm afraid to go find out. Although I suppose it's possible that it's in the same vein as Baba Rum Raisin in mid-70's National Lampoon, in which case I'd be disappointed to miss it.

Tat man pinch hits a single. That's got to chase Lyles. He should have been already out of there, Millsie. Lyles' problems the second and third time through the order speaks volumes about the stark lack of command of a secondary pitch.

Parra, Astrokilla, delivers a two out two run single. 8-2 now.

WW picks off Parra. That's the second time for you, Parra, today. It serves you right. In the eyes of the BBG's, you were too greedy and guilty of piling on. Fuck you, Parra.

Keuchel hasn't been traded yet?

Actually, as much as the Happ trade amazed me, I really would be stunned and impressed if he found someone to take CJ. Which I can only assume he's trying to do, hence not calling up Wallace yet. I get the sense they're working really hard to make a trade with any of the spare parts that might have any sort of value whatsoever. WW is like a step above a spare part right now, plus they have Cedeno they can call back up.

Well, I missed the game, and the Astros lost.

Darn it!

When/what was the turning point of the game?

That's like finding the choicest kernels of corn in the shithouse. Who can say?

That show sucks balls.

There is a Ancient Aliens rerun marathon on the History Channel as we speak, if anyone is interested.

Mark Knopler is one of my favorite guitarists. It saddens me that his music is being used for this BK BBQ bullshit.

I never had a problem with guys making an extra buck. It beats hearing Billy Squire or Hellen Ready.

Let's see how Maxwell handles a squeeze bunt if we're going to show his home runs.

Yeah. I like his spray-on tan.

His name is Giorgio-something. Used to be involved in bodybuilding promotions, something like that. Before he became an Ancient Alien theorist, I mean.

Yeah. He looks like the sort who would be a font of credible scientific knowledge.

My wife calls him "Papadopolos" for reasons obviously having to do with his name but are otherwise lost on me. Bodybuilding? Really? The whole show (the UFOlogist guy who allegedly has both a law degree and a Ph.D. (wonder where those degrees came from?, Papadopolos, Noory, etc. are a real hoot--but they're out there--as in way out there).

God damn I can't stand Jimmy Buffett.

I spend more time than I should thinking about this guy. I mean, what the fuck is the deal? Who the fuck likes this guy other than Hap? And why? What else is going on in the minds of people that like him that I'm missing out on? Do they love the smell of ammonia?

Actually, if you've been to the Flora-Bama bar, which is literally on the border of Alabama and Florida (supposedly part of the bar is in each state), then you'd get the laid back vibe of Buffett.

It's damn near impossible for me to be laid-back, but the presence of Jimmy Buffett, his music or his vibe is guaranteed to be the antidote to any possibility of laying back for me.

Supposedly, he's a great guy, really nice and helpful especially to other musicians. That's great, but I'd rather listen to disco than Jimmy Buffett.

I have no idea what that refers to, and frankly, I'm afraid to go find out. Although I suppose it's possible that it's in the same vein as Baba Rum Raisin in mid-70's National Lampoon, in which case I'd be disappointed to miss it.

I was thinking about my sense of humor today, and how it has gotten me in more trouble more regularly than I'd care to admit to. I was raised on MAD, National Lampoon, Richard Pryor, Woody Allen, Mel Brooks and Michael O'Donoghue. Nothing is sacred. Everything is fair game. Most of the people I know don't think that way.

Last night I read an interview with Mel Brooks. Part of it was about the difficulty in getting Blazing Saddles released. They showed it to the studio heads, and one of them recommended eating the costs and never releasing it. They persuaded the Heads to have a showing that evening for studio employees. Brooks said that the line, "Dock that Chink a day's pay for napping on the job!" started an avalanche of laughter that didn't let up, and they were convinced that it could be released.

Where did those people go?

Fuck 'em. I blame society.

I have been past that place but most certainly not in it. It is a fucking trailer park and inserting myself amongst drunken south Alabama and Florida panhandle rednecks does not exactly soothe me into a laid back state of mind. Maybe I just need to augment my Budweiser with some meth.

I'm sorry, Hap, but hanging out with a bunch of do-ragged bikers with neck tats and disconcerting twitches is not going to make me into a Jimmy Buffet fan.

The annual mullet tossing contest that they used to hold and maybe still do was a hoot. It's actually frequented by tourists, especially during the day, even though a lot of them also managed to make it for the evening to mix with the locals, who used to congregate outside where you saw them.

I used to love it in the afternoon when the songwriters would congregate in the bar. They actually had a copy of the songwriters' bible: the big book of rhyming words. I used to sit down there and take a stab at writing cry in your beer country music songs, usually heavily under the influence of marijuana and Budweiser. I used to sing the old Johnny Cash song "Daddy Sang Bass" with the house band too. I wrote "I'm Too Well to Attend" and "Happy Anniversary, Darling (How Many Years is it Not?) and a few others that no one should ever hear down there and had a ball. I was in there twice when Buffett himself came in and played some songs with his guitar. Very unassuming, unpretentious guy.

The place apparently was destroyed in one of the hurricanes (I think that it was Katrina--that bitch was devastating), but they rebuilt it just like it was. Even though I'm a reformed derelict, I'd go back. It might be even more fun clean.
