Sickels top 120 Prospect List - 2012 Midseason Revision
« on: July 02, 2012, 12:54:02 pm »
Here is the latest top 120 list from Sickels (LINK).  Note that it does not include 2012 draftees.

Here are the Astros that made the list:

47) Jonathan Singleton, 1B, Houston Astros (47);
53) George Springer, OF, Houston Astros (55); and
80) Jarred Cosart, RHP, Houston Astros (108).

Some other Astros were included in his 'OTHER PLAYERS CONSIDERED FOR THE LIST" section:

Delino DeShields, 2B, Astros; and Nick Tropeano, RHP, Astros

Glad to see Tropeano finally getting some recognition. Surprised Folty isn't mentioned?

i just noticed that Garrett Richards should be kicked off the list because he’s going to push past rookie eligibility very quickly if he hasn’t done so already.

So we can kick Richards off the list and move everyone up a notch and put DeShields on.

In August, unless something weird happens, DeShields is gonna be on here. I think he is the main oversight at this point.

So, pencil him in at #100?  I'm a little surprised Folty wasn't even HM, either.

FWIW, Singleton is the lone Astro on Kevin Goldstein's midseason top 50 at BP, moving up to 40 from 73 preseason.  List does not include draftees.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Not to nitpick fake internet grades, but how does DeShields rate a C+ after the season he's had?  Surely the strikeouts aren't that big of a negative.

I thought that, too, but I think the grades are preseason as well as their ranks:

Quote
13) Nick Tropeano, RHP, Grade C+: 2.78 ERA with 97/26 K/BB in 87 innings in Low-A, 4.64 ERA with 34/13 K/BB in 33 innings in High-A. Velocity boost in pro ball is good to see, and he already knew how to pitch. I'd move him up to a B-.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Remember, this is a pre-season list. It is not a new list.

So rankings and grades are all from the before this year began.

In the comments he says Deshields would be "maybe a B" now.
