CJ has been scratched, so the new lineup is this:
Left lat strain for CJ. That could be a DL trip.
How long do we expect the rain delay to last?
Scheduled to start at 2:15 CT.
Lee needed just a little more time to think about the trade thing.
They're discussing Carlos' decision in the extended pregame. JD sympathizes with the difficulty of the decision, and they're wondering if Carlos expects to retire at the end of the season or not and how that might play into his choice as well.
Levine and JD say Wandy is being scouted pretty heavily. It's surprising how listenable DoRay is when in the middle of a discussion with JD and Levine. He's clearly the goober in the bunch, but I don't know how much of it is the different role for him, or how great JD and good Levine are.Give it a minute, get both sides of DoRay chiming in together, and it's clearly the sparkle of JD and Levine making this listenable.
I enjoyed listening to JD and (I think it was) Dave's Excellent Adventure in the offseason a few years back. I have to think he'd be better if paired with a good color guy.
My God, I had forgotten how annoying Ric Renner is during that rain delay.
And by 'Frito Pie' I mean the lowest version of it, a can of Wolf Brand, some Fritos, some cheese and maybe some onion. Maybe a serrano.I'm working again, I can't just whip up some chili today.
I have but two words for you: ahi tuna.
The slack shack is a paradise of hard-to-eat fruit, we've got pomegranates, mustang grapes, and figs.
Wood set 'em down in order again. 0-0 Bottom 2
This sounds a level above the plain old bag of pretzels I just ate.
It's summer, man. No watermelon? No ice cream? At least there's beer. Right? RIGHT?
I got watermelon in the fridge, ice cream in the freezer. Later, I'm gonna get started making some wild-grape jelly or juice.
I've doomed Castro by picking him up and starting him today since Rosario isn't in the lineup and Lucroy is still on the DL.
Then all is right with the world. Good show.
Why would you start him on the road against a Cy Young perfect-game pitcher?DOOOOOOMED.
Even though he's only hitting .176 against lefties (coming in), he was in the lineup and Rosario wasn't.
I wish I could get my kids to eat beanie weenie, but ohhhh noooooo, no way. At least I got them to appreciate the Ramones.
Remarkable how much easier the latter is then the former. If I'm lucky I'll get "when I'm a grownup I promise I'll try chili" but throw on Rockaway Beach or I Wanna Be Sedated and the living room turns into an instant five year old mosh pit.
Nothing like a Kyle Chevy spot. The umpty-billionth time.
I haven't seen my boys in so long that I don't even know if they like the Ramones.
Travis Wood, perfect through 4.I guess this means we should be streaming every pitcher who faces the Astros. Why did it take this long to occur to me?
Hell with that, we need somebody in Vegas taking our bets.
Lee: "I want to finish what I started...the slow, steady murder of Astros fans' will to live."
I got my oldest to appreciate Slade several years ago, but now she doesn't even remember them and doesn't care to listen either.
Tell her the Slade song titles were some of the earliest precursors to textEnglish.(Right now I have the 19-year-old listening to "Main Man" - off of T. Rex The Slider. The other has on something or another. But he had on The Black Angels really fucking loud a little while ago, so that was all right.)
Sneak in "Rabbit Fighter" if you can.
I've been thinking about this Americano como tu ad. Why is any part of that spot in English? It seems to me that if the market is Spanish speaking people, they don't need the English. What am I missing here?
How in the fuck did Ruiz not make the All-Star team? That's an injustice if it is true.
Who is this Ruiz character?
I know. And "Buick McKane", too. Man that was a tight album.
My sense, justified or not, is that you don't read much fiction. However, have you run across Dear American Airlines by Jonathan Miles? There are several elements of the story that remind me of you and I'm curious I've it has crossed your desk.
All it's missing is a bigger logo.
His last tight album, in fact. Man, that comet went high and came down fast.
I know. This sounds inhumane, but strictly from an artistic perspective, he hit that tree about right on time.
Phillies catcher?
Your sense is spot on. I write and read non-fiction. Boring, I know, but it's what I know. Is the story about an aging guy in recovery whose boys don't talk to him, because, if so, I live that daily.
I had you reading the classics. Seriously.
I thought our guys' lineup was bad, but holy shit the Dodgers haven't scored in 50-something innings?
56 of the last 57. I hardly think Carlos will solve their problems.
June Astro batting averages, courtesy of Tags: Altuve (.291), Bogusevic (.216), Castro (.302), Downs (.229), Johnson (.258), Lee (.241), Lowrie (.218), Martinez (.232), Schafer (.176), Snyder (.179)
It certainly can't make things worse.
Castro has been improving steadily each month in that department. Also, I think he's been improving (if not quite at such an impressive clip) behind the plate as well.
Do the Dodgers know something we don't?
They're sick of Loney.
Yeah, this is it exactly. At least Lee puts the ball in play.
Wow. I didn't realize how far he'd fallen. Never a power hitter, especially for a 1B, but ... .236/.303/.323?I can buy that he is in decline - I don't watch closely enough to know otherwise - but he is still only 28, and was fine offensively as recently as last season. Is Carlos a better bet?
The fuckers got a guy to third with one out.
For a few million bucks and a top ten prospect? All I can say is I'm not going to tell them otherwise.
Game. Over.
What does it mean when your team is swept by the shittiest and worst team in baseball, twice.
I think we're all pretty clear on what it means.
Bixler hustle!
Miller is really running out of ideas. Wasn't that standard practice on beer service in the 70/80s?
Brownie just dropped "Marmolade."
Brownie and JD should just come on into the gz. We're probably th only ones watching anyhow
Does the can actually have a perforated circle on it that can be penetrated by a drumstick? Really?
The Astros home attendance so far is 928, 797, 16th out of 16 in the NL.If they were in the AL, they would immediately jump to 9th out of 15.CWS - 900,736 (09th of 14) KC - 871,677 (10th of 14)SEA - 812,409 (11th of 14)OAK - 796,720 (12th of 14) TB - 786,958 (13th of 14)CLE - 699,516 (14th of 14)
Maybe his last hit as an Astro...
Further proof that the AL sucks balls.
Wow. I remember when Cle. went years without a game not being sold out.
Time to go pound some Modelo.
The White Sox are leading their division and have drawn less than the meager turnouts at MMPUS. Too many retards going to the North Side I guess.
I wonder if Carlos had a moment like ol Billy chapel at the end of For The Love of the Game. He writes a plaintive note on a baseball, looks over at the bat boy and calls out "hombre, ven aqui." He hands the ball to the boy, who looks him in the eye and nods understandingly. The boy takes off running and doesn't stop until he reaches luhnow and hands luhnow the ball, still gasping for air. luhnow looks down and reads carlos's note inscribed on the ball: "tell 'em I accept. For the love of the dodger dog. -Los"
I'm gonna ride a white swan over to club chipotle.
If Lee chooses to stick around for this crap, then he has no love for the game
He'll probably get booed and probably benched pretty soon in favor of Wallace. It's not going to get any better for him here.
If I were the Astros, I would go ahead and call up Wallace. Put him at 1B tomorrow. Let Lee mull over his options. Not to send a message to Lee but it's time to move on and see what you have in Wallace.
Olney saying his source still believes Carlos will reject the deal.
Olney's sources are usually pretty good. He's got to be holding out for something in particular. It'll be interesting and telling to see what the club does for him.
Some actual (non-)information from McTaggart: Carlos Lee left the ballpark with the team and headed for Pittsburgh, saying simply there was no decision yet.
seems like a pocket veto
Carlos is a lame duck on a going-nowhere team and whoever he's traded for could really help the Good Guys in a few years. That said, I don't mind it that he doesn't want to leave Houston and I won't be supremely pissed if he stays through the end of the year. For all of the shitty things written about this team and its city recently, it's kinda nice to see somebody actually prefer to be here.
it's kinda nice to see somebody actually prefer to be here.
Yeah, I don't really understand the vitriol about Carlos doing what he contractually negotiated for and is entitled to do. I can think of a bunch of reasons that he might not want to go, including having to live out of a hotel for the rest of the season (assuming he doesn't want to bother renting/buying a house and having to figure out all the details that includes) to not wanting to have to join a team full of people he doesn't know and beyond. It's a big change and if doesn't want to do it and doesn't have to do it, who are we to excoriate the guy for doing what he wants to do with his life?
Carlos negotiated a contract in which he had the right to veto trades to 14 different teams, and LAD was one of those teams. Fine, it was his right to do so. However, the Astros have the right to trade him to 15 other teams and I'd as soon them do so immediately... I don't dislike Carlos, and like pots I am "not going to rag on the guy, but I'm not backing him either" and am more than ready to see 'the horse' move on to other pastures...
This next few weeks may test just how much he cares about the fans and their response in Houston. The crowds are so small it might not matter much, or he might just get booed on a Beltranian level.
I wonder what or who released the information about the possible deal if Luhnow's policy is to not discuss pending trades. I think that it was Carlos, who apparently didn't think through the PR ramifications of declining the deal. If that is the case, then he deserves whatever reaction he gets and an't blame the club for trading him to a team that he didn't put the kibosh on.
I just find it surprising that the Dodgers would be on the list of teams he would have to ok.
LAD makes perfect sense if he really wants to stay in HOU as bad as it seems he does. If that was in fact his goal at the beginning of the season, his best bet would've been to pick the 14 teams he thought stood the best chance of making a playoff run (i.e., the only ones likely to try to make a deadline deal)... ETA, and omit the teams with the best 1B and IB prospect(s) from that list.
I don't know if Lee or Lee's people released the info but he certainly commented on it and Luhnow was careful to say that he wouldn't comment on it, that whatever they got from Lee was whatever they got but he wouldn't add to it.I'd be surprised if Lee has any real feeling for fan reaction at all. He's not involved much in promotion and has been a magnet for fan bitching for years, although none of it has been all that loud. This might change things a bit.
That assumes a lot, like he cares about winning. I strongly suspect that he doesn't. So, OSF, what are the clubs who are in need of a first sacker/DH who are in contention? I haven't the foggiest.
Sorry, wasn't clear I guess. If he wanted to stay in HOU, his best bet would be to include the 14 teams on his no-trade list that stood the best chance of making a playoff run (as teams making a playoff push are more likely to try to make a trade for someone like Carlos than a team not making a playoff run). In other words, if he wanted to stay in HOU, his best bet would be to exclude the (presumed) 15 worst teams in the league from his 'no trade' list, as they'd be the least likely to seek a trade for him...
I wonder if there's really any other team that he'd want to play for at this point in his career.
I fear that the Astros' response to this is going to be swift and unpleasant to Carlos.
I hope Wallace is on his way to Pittsburgh.
So, OSF, what are the clubs who are in need of a first sacker/DH who are in contention? I haven't the foggiest.
Decent hypothetical rundown here: Astrosdomain blog LINK
I can't imagine that Carlos Lee is in the practice of leaking information to the media. It seems like the furthest thing from his mind.
Agreed. I don't see why his agent would either. Hopefully, the leak was on the other side as it would be stupid for Luhnow to leak it and then have it collapse in public view.
Unless he was trying to force Lee's hand.
