If you, at your job, just completely screwed up a project so bad that you missed the most important detail of the project, odds are you'd be fired.

This guy not only completely and totally fucked up, but got to take it out on someone else and end THEIR day for telling him he fucked up.

And odds are he won't even get a single day's pay docked for his monster fuckup of a VERY easy call.

Idiotic umpiring aside... I gotta say that was a helluva heads-up play by the fan there!!! Not likely to see that happen in Dumbass Cove any time soon...

ETA: I initially completely missed the fact the ball was being held up by a fan at the end of the row...

To the best of my knowlege (take that for what it's worth), at this time, only HRs are reviewable. The new CBA exands the video review rules to include things like whether or not a ball was caught, fair/foul balls down the line, etc, but that requires agreement from the umpire's union, which I believe agreed to put into effect in 2013.

Replay would not have been necessary if the umpire had simply asked to see the ball in his glove.

DiMuro is freaking running towards the play when the ball was coming out of his glove. What the heck is he looking at, he had a clear line of sight. And if he needed more proof, all he had to do is look towards the guy holding up the ball to be sure. Wise did not even bother to show the ball in glove to the umpire because the umpire was just plain lazy on that play.

And DiMuro knows it and why he was so damn defensive against Hanahan!

In this case, instant replay is not needed. Even if he made the catch he has to hold on to it. Ump should have check to see if he had the ball. Instant replay is suppose to be for when the umpire needs the help to be able to make the call. No help is needed here. Check for the damn ball.

Replay is only a partial solution. Incompetent umpires undermine the integrtity of the game, replay or no replay. MLB needs to fire the incompetents and hire better umpires. Also, MLB needs to publically discipline competent umpires who make serious errors.

He'll probably say that in the scrum, Wise gave the ball up. However, why is he looking right at the play and not seeing clearly what happened? It baffles me. But this again is all about getting yourself in the right position to make a call. That is Umpiring 101 and there were a bunch of guys who were once umps (and no more after the Sandy Alderson scorched Ump campaign) that were infamous for being lazy and not getting into position. Seems to me DiMuro relied on the player to prove he made the play rather than actually getting into the right position and calling what he saw. If he's out of position, he can't claim what he saw was that good, so he can ask for assistance. No real need for replay IMHO, just better umpires or at least those who know how to do their job.

I agree with you. DiMuro blew the call and then ran Hanahan when he protested an obviously botched call. He didn't even give Hanahan his say before running him. That's chickenshit.
