Very nice, sir. Dad and I caught a number of games during the summer of 1980.

Very nice. Enjoyed reliving the memories and the great story of the pitcher who makes batters cry.

Noe! Possibly my most favorite series preview of all time! This is not because of the mentions (I get the hint about Happ--incidentally, my money is on Happ this time in Chavez Ravine), but because of conjuring up the memories of possibly the hardest fought series that the Astros ever played. You brought it back to the fore of my old drug/alcohol-addled brain, and for that, I thank you, sir!

Happ sucks, I wasn't really going to put a thin dime on him, he needs to start trying to keep the ball down, etc. How's that?!

Thank you all for the kind words. I added a video tribute to Joe Niekro that has footage of the 1980 game. Still gives me goosebumps to watch at minimum those short vignettes. You can also watch the video here.

Yes, both teams will have one. Nine players to a side.

I was 8 in 1980.  I had a pair of rainbow gut Astros pajamas.  Complete with #28.  On the pants leg.  Where a uniform number freaking belongs.

I have no trouble considering the Dodgers a rival.  Fuck the Dodgers.  Fuck Tommy Lasorda.  Renting first place in '86?  Fuck you.  You were renting the original holes on your belt.  I still hate them.   I'll always remember the night I got back from a completely unfruitful date in time to see this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JHPGipLPrE

It still warms my heart.  Even with Berman's awful broadcasting.

And pay attention to the crawl.  Astros fucked the Cubs 5-4 that night.

In summary:
Fuck the Dodgers
Fuck Tommy Lasorda
Fuck Steve Howe
Fuck Steve Garvey
Fuck Dodger Dogs
Fuck Bud
Fuck the Cubs

Go Astros

That was awesome.  I love how Thon made the final putout.

My sentiments exactly. I still hate them as much as I hate the Cubs and Cardinals. Fuck them! No, double fuck all of them, especially Steve "Are you my Padre" Garvey!

I also liked how in the crawl we see that the Astros beat the Cubs.

Goddam, Berman is terrible. He's one of those people, phenomena, really, that most everybody loves and those of us sadly existing in a different reality just don't get at all.

Elarton was a boss that season.

I don't know anyone who loves him.  Much like these sudden Rangers fans we see, I simply don't know who these people are.
