In case anyone was wondering how stupid I am -

My second son Max was born Friday (everyone doing great). I decided having two kids under 20 months old wasn't exciting enough, so I took a job in New York and will be moving the whole operation up there this summer.of course, just closed on a house in Dallas at the end of Feb (is anyone looking for a place?)

It's really unbelievable - for just 1,500 bucks a month more than my mortgage payment on a 4,000 sqft house 10 minutes from downtown Dallas, I can get a 1,200 sqft apt in Brooklyn.

Preschools major consideration - your namesake is completely insane and needs to get out of the house whenever possible.

My brother just bought a house in Prospect Heights (the realtors refer to it being in Lefferts Prospect Heights) and he has two kids under 8 years old.  And they go to public school.

Public school is for the losers. They'll never go pro if they aren't in premier school by the time they're 8.

This is a little eerie. My wife asked me how old I thought JR Richard was, and I tried to put the pieces together and decided that he must be 61 or 62. Then I went to b-r.com and discovered that his birthday is June 7, 1950, so he's a couple weeks away from turning 62. That's all nice.

Then I scrolled down the page to look at some of the other things. I always like to look at the player similarity scores; they just catch my fancy somehow. #1 pitching similarity for JR? Don Wilson.

Is that a sweep of those cocksuckers?

It is.  And a 6-2 homestand.

Great series - for the moment, smugly reminiscing on my scrubbie friend explaining to me during spring training how the cubs were a "dark horse" to win the division. Time will tell I suppose.

You evidently lead a charmed life if that is among the most unpleasant things your mind can conjure up...

Chuck's certainly lived a charmed life but you've clearly never tried to rent an apartment in New York City.  It's a horrible and expensive process.

Whatever.... I mean seriously, how hard could it be to force Alkie to sublet his apartment at a deeply discounted rate?!?

It would be a lot easier if you had a turtle costume.

Portland's former US Congressman has a tiger suit.  If you think it'd work, I'd be happy to have someone see if he'd loan it out to SnSers moving to NYC. What can I say, I'm just nice that way...

I've been meaning to bring this up and this seems like as good a time as any. For some bizarre reason random episodes of Portlandia get run down here on some weird ass channel. I find the show every bit as funny as any other TV show which is to say not at all. But I do appreciate the skewering of hipsters. Perhaps it's my being a retired hipster myself, I don't know. Anyway, the thing I like most is knowing that you live in the middle of all that and that you do so by choice. It generates such insane cognitive dissonance I cannot tell you.

It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma...

And for what its worth, I don't see Portlandia as a 'skewing of hipsters' as much as a documentary of everyday life for a lot of Portlandians...

I lived in Oregon for a brief period in the mid-90s and found the natives of Oregon difficult to differentiate culturally from the natives of Oklahoma. The hipsters, who were only a small fraction of the population, tended to be from elsewhere (mainly California).

I have never been to Portland, but drove up the coast during college.  The few locals I encountered up close fit your description, but it was more like rural Arkansas and deliverance.
