I know we're not supposed to feed the trolls in the Chron comments section, but this caught my eye:

Quote
Never mind how the team is playing, new uniforms are coming. We just can't show or tell you what they look like. This isn't news.

Given the expectations coming into this season, I'd say three games under .500 and four games out of first place at the end of May is pretty damn good.

I don't know, that seems to be a fairly neutral comment.  He's not saying the team is playing good or bad, but that however they are playing is more newsie than this item.

Though I have been known to give people too much credit from time to time.

I hadn't considered the possibility that he was giving the team a compliment.  I suppose that's possible, but I read it in more of a "Stop giving out non-news about uniforms and talk about how you're going to fix the team" kind of light.  Given the Chron, I think the latter is more likely.

I dunno if I call it moronic, more like a mixed bag of fandom priorities if you will. But a GM of a club probably has more information to share about the draft or specific players than he would about the uni. I would suspect this is where a chat with the fashion designer is in order more than the GM.

Of course, mixed bag of priorities would also bring questions about Sheriff Blacklock's Nachos too.

I called it moronic and stick by that characterization. You've got the GM available for a chat and you can ask him questions. Do they concern the present state of the ballclub or the hotter issue of thedraft and you waste the time on asking for information that the club has repeatedly said that it isn't releasing yet. Moronic. Moronic, I tells ya!!!

To be fair, he prefaced the chat by saying that he could not answer questions about the draft. One fan asked about Buxton and Luhnow reminded them that he couldn't talk about players and that he had heard of him and referred them to Google. Maybe he would have answered logistial questions about the draft, but we weren't going to get any scoops out of him.

Blue and Orange are coming back, finally.  Should have never gone away from that in the first place, and that 1st Drayton uni the blue and glitter gold was fucking awful.  And then there is this, MLB makes you turn in your final uniform for approval in June, but will not let you reveal it until after the 2012 season.  What exactly is the point of that?

They threw us a bone.  Houston's history as an NL city was callously discarded.  So now they change to the original colors in order to maintain some kind of link with history.  The silver lining, if you will.

Why would you buy merchandise *this* summer if you knew the new stuff was coming out in November.  Before you answer, keep in mind the majority of people who attend Astros games have no idea there were any uniforms that weren't either the current configuration or the rainbow gut.

Hmmm, June-November... the MLB office clearly likes to use those months to think of some other way to extort the franchise and/or fuck their fanbase.

Why does everyone hate pinstripes so much?

I don't hate pinstripes, I hate the busy multi-colored stuff on top of them.  A simple monochromatic pinstripe/logo combination (Yankees, White Sox) is fine.  My gripe with the current uniforms is not the colors, it's that they're unnecessarily ornamental.  I like the road grays and the Saturday/Holiday whites with the brick trim.  BTW, am I the only one who really likes the trend of the brick hats on the road?
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I think $$$ had more to do with changing uniforms than anything else, but as long as they get them right I don't care what the motive was.

Given what he's doing at AAA BA-wise, he must be starting to get close to that.

Everyone doesn't follow the Astros, or watch the news, or read the paper.  (In fact I'd say the majority of people don't do these things.)  But they still might buy a t-shirt at the game.

And I'm not saying it's a great thought process, but it is the thought process.

Could it have something to do with the fact that Paredes cannot play 3B worth squat?  He is tearing it up in AAA which may give them a pretty nice trade option.

Striking out ~22% of the time might back that theory up.  [/sarc] And 4 walks in 170+ PA confirms it.  He makes good contact, but is a work in progress both at the plate and in the field (where he leads the team with 11 errors in 40 games).

Stumbled across this on the UniWatch blog from yesterday:

Quote
A little birdie checks in with the following: “I have a friend who works for the Astros, and he caught a glimpse of the logo and wordmark the club sent up to MLB for approval. His description was that it’s the same star they are using now, except a little ‘sharper,’ and in blue and orange. The wordmark uses a font that is similar to what they were using in the ’60s and ’70s. No word on the uniform, though.” …

Wow, that's a damn good find- and buried way down that page, too. Thanks, it sounds promising for sure.
