That's the best that the Astros have looked since they left those unis behind years ago. They should go back to them.

They look so "clean" w/o the name on the back. And the navy and orange really are the team colors. They should return, at the least, to that scheme. And maybe they are. Dierker has seen the proposed new unis and he says he likes them and I know he likes the shooting star look. He can't talk about them but he seems to be hinting that if you like those you may be pleased with these. At least that's what I'm trying to convince myself he is hinting at.

Didn't know they were already that far along in the development... Any word on when they're going to reveal them to the public?

Not until the offseason. It seems like they had to put everything together really quickly on the new unis to get approval from MLB in time, so I really hope they turn out okay. The last thing this team needs is another decade of crap uniforms.

Bring them back!

That would make me very happy. I may even bring myself to root for an AL team.

I think that it would be a wise "tradition" move since they are changing "traditions" in the league shift. Giving the wistful fans some hold on to the past would be a great and wise call in my opinion.

Right on, I've really been hoping for this, or some mix of elements from the shooting star unis and the late-80's ones.

The thing that scares me about Dierker's new-uni-design comments (from when he was on with JD and Brownie in the opening series, right?) is that he also said he loved the late-90's unis- although he did allow that sentimental reasons probably played a part, since that's when he managed.

I liked the late-90s unis.  Apparently I'm the only one, since it's nearly impossible to find decent merchandise from that era.

I'm with you. Since we've left that era behind, I'd prefer the redesign be orange and blue, but if we had never left blue and gold, I'd have been fine with that.

Home whites are fairly hard to fuck up but Houston did so in spades with the gruesome pinstripes.  If anything this season, they should wear thale white uni every damn home game.

Agreed on both points.

"Bland" would be a compliment for the current unis.  I thought the navy/gold unis were modern without being too cartoony (e.g. previous Angels unis, previous Rockets unis).

I would wear an Astros cap into the office on Saturdays and everytime, every single time, at least one of my LMCO co-workers would ask me when the company changed the star color to gold.

My favorites are the Shooting Star uni with the blue hat (hated the orange) followed by the rainbow gut, if only because that's what the team was wearing when I started following them in 1979.

What kind of lawyer would ever say pinstripes blow?  Pinstripes are the sartorially daring, festive, and edgy.  It's too bad they can't get tassle loafer cleats.

When I dressed up for the office back in the day (years ago), I used to don a bowtie once a week, and once a year, I would have a bowtie week, where I'd wear one every day. I primarily did it because one of my colleagues hated them. But I love them!

As long as we're voting (or is it ranking?):

1. Shooting Star, Navy
2. Rainbow sleeves
3. Rainbow gut
...
4. Current
5. Shooting Star, Orange
6. Navy and Gold

The Navy and Gold irritated me. They were trying too hard to look "modern" and space-y, perhaps. And where the hell did the gold come from? That fundamental team color-palette transgression paved the way for the current head-scratcher brick-and-"sand" palette (which at least feels closer to the original palette, to me). And at least the star isn't italicized anymore. But yeah, they're very, very bland, and I will be happy to see them go, provided they're not replaced with some focus-grouped abomination.

Was referring to the lettering/font used in the "Shooting Star" uniform.  The star itself on the jersey was never my favorite part of the look.  To each his own.

not to quibble, but how is a "sand"-"brick" color scheme closer to the original orange-navy than navy-gold?  I agree the Astros 90s navy and gold uniforms initiated the bastardization of the uniforms, but it's not the greatest culprit.  In my mind, the progression goes something like this:
- business/marketing consultant thinks "orange, who the fuck wears orange"?  They have some think tanks and market analysis done on an acceptable alternative to orange.  Gold is the winner.
- process re-initiated in conjunction with the rolling out of Enron Field.  Said business/marketing consultants realized they've already transgressed traditional boundaries and just say "fuck it" we'll make the uniforms look however we goddam well please.

I really wouldn't mind the new unis if not for the pinstripes and the all to frequent brick jerseys.  I am fine with the red on the true weekend day game/holiday regimen for which they were initially intended.

To those who rank the rainbow guts high: really?  They're great as a novelty item, but viewing those colors in the modern HD world for a full season could cause retinal damage.

My favorite is the navy shooting star.  I think it will provide the foundation for the new unis, but a modern twist will be applied.  Hopefully, the unis are only fucked up in a limited capacity as a result.

As I recall, the sand and brick uniform was chosen to complement the brick in the new stadium.  It made a lot more sense to me at the time than the blue and gold ever had.

I can't wait to see Carlos Lee in the rainbow gut on throwback jersey night.  Aren't pinstripes supposed to be slimming?

Pinstripes, yes.  Horizontal stripes make you look fatter.

not to quibble, but how is a "sand"-"brick" color scheme closer to the original orange-navy than navy-gold?

I'm sure Pam Gardner plays heavily into this too.

She is no longer employed by the Astros so I hope not.

Eh, you know, if you squint, the sand and brick kinda blur together and make... something that almost resembles orange. Sort of.

I meant in reference to changing, not only uniform designs, but color schemes.

Okay, I guess I was so shocked and excited to see this news that my mind must've short circuited a little...  I thought she was still with the club in some capacity.

I've been told that "special advisor" translates roughly to "we have to keep paying her under the terms of her contract".  She has zero operational responsibilities.  Kind of like when a college coach or AD is "reassigned".

She is no longer employed by the Astros, she resigned when it became clear Postolos was going to be doing her job.  I believe she is doing some consulting work for them though.

I had not understood that 'special adviser' as it relates to PG meant she'd been basically kicked to the curb...  THANK YOU FOR THE CLARIFICATION - IT HAS BROUGHT IMMENSE JOY TO MY LIFE!

I would prefer that her duties had something to do with the personal replacement of urinal cakes.
