This is certainly entertaining. Three triples in the top of the first, five hits with one out and it's 4-0 with one down so far.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

I'm at the airport in DC and can't find the game anywhere. Fuck.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

There's another very popular chili spot in DC, but I can't remember its name. I used to hit it when I was at Georgetown Law School, so it may be long gone since then. My favorite place to hit in DC was the Tune Inn.

Yes, I'd say that was pretty accurate. I've seen (and coached) other pitchers who also have a tight motion but stay within themselves. I don't know why it works for some but not for others.

It's never good to let the opposing pitcher single to lead off an inning, which Norris just did. Norris at 70 tosses already. Looks like a four inning night out of the bullpen.

JD has Granderson, eh? He's got a shot at Lou Gehrig's four homer record tonight.

I liked JD's comment about how cricket might be his game since you can hit the ball backwards. JD is great, and Brownie is a great straight man.

They are a treasure.

I genuinely think JD is the main reason I'm still as dedicated to the Astros as I am. No matter how bad the team might be, I will always enjoy listening to him call the games.

To put it in perspective, if JD started calling Cardinals games, I think I'd follow him there—pretty much anywhere but the north side of Chicago, in fact.

JD is all kinds of awesome, but you have to give Brownie a lot of credit too.  As Happy said, he's a perfect straight man for JD.  But not only that, he has a true gift for describing exactly what is going on around him.  I know that sounds simple, but it is a very underrated skill and a lot of the folks who have his job simply cannot do it well.  And his guffaw-chuckle absolutely slays me on a nightly basis.

The only team that I think is close to being as good as JD/Brownie is Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow out here for the Giants. That's a rare matchup of two former players in the booth, and it works. I enjoy Jon Miller too when he's on Giants' television, but I prefer Kruk and Kuip.

At this point I will almost always listen to Sculy when the Astros are playing the Dojers.  And even then its because I know that I will not have many more chances to do so.  I also find myself listening to Brewers broadcasts against the Astros for a few innings, as Uecker is also entertaining as heck...  That aside, JD and Brownie are IMO irreplaceable.  I also like Lucas in the mix as a 'third-wheel'...

I'll miss Lucas if he doesn't join the team in the switch to the RSN (I'm assuming he won't, since he's an employee of FSN). He adds another good element to the brilliance that is Brownie and JD.

I think the overall ratings are great, except for the steMs. I have had the misfortune of listening to their broadcast on MLBTV and frankly, those three guys are "blah". Hardly the stuff of entertaining or informative, two traits I think are very necessary for a good team.  Jimmy D, by the way, is an unknown treasure we Astros fans are very lucky to have.

It's the truth. I've noticed that people who haven't heard him before tend to misunderstand his style. But they always come around.

He has an understated cleverness that is brilliant at times. He's like being with a good friend who doesn't scream to get attention, doesn't swear, doesn't really deadpan either. He just says something that stops you dead on your tracks and makes you either think, laugh, or both. Not subtle, but not in your face either. Just plain conversational, funny, and friendly.

When he poked fun at his Dad the one spring training game for asking Patti Smith for a kiss on-air, you knew the guy was brilliant but not over the top. Being over the top is a trait that is practiced almost every day on ESPN by their personality of the day. Jimmy D is the Oasis from that sort of broadcaster that everyone should covet to run to when you just need a break from it all.

There's an episode of Father Ted where Dougal is befriending some other "cooler" young priest with very strong views on the Blur/Oasis debate.
