First Don Cornelius and now Dick Clark.  Is there a third dance show from the '70s?

I remember at maybe 8 years old, 1964, watching Roy Orbison on American Bandstand singing Pretty Woman.  It was unforgettable, mostly because or Orbison's incredible presence on black and white tv.  Orbison was made for black and white tv.

I always think of American Bandstand as an early 60s show, not the 70s.

THe Midnight Special comes to mind. I think that was Wolfman Jack. I don't think he's still among us though.

Wolfman Jack has been dead for many years.

In the 60s in Houston it was the Larry Kane Show, a local dance show. It was popular enough that no local station carried AB for a long time.

I would love to see some video of that, more than the little that I can find on youtube. Houston had a weird ass music scene back then that is worth preserving.

The 60s and early 70s also featured a local kids show with "Kiterrick" (sp?). It featured a woman in a black leotard and kitten ears and whiskers... oh, and fish net hose.  It was difficult to go through puberty with that show on the air.

Have to admit it was very interesting times for me trying to figure out why I was so *drawn* to a woman dressed as a cat. Then I realized much later that it had nothing to do with felines at all.

No, and with those names, this thread seems to be taking a turn for the worse.

Don Mahoney and Gina Claire too. I could not understand the appeal of that show since I was an urbanite all my childhood and had never been outside the city limits nor ever seen a horse until my teenage years.

I asked my wife -- who also grew up in Houston -- if she remembered this and she said "Of course! My Brownie troop got to go on the show!"
