I'm curious too.

I had the DR9, which was the predecessor to the pumpkinator.  It's not my favorite beer.  It's a bit sweet with some spice notes and a slightly syrupy mouthfeel.  That said, it's not the worst and is great for one of those nights, not unlike tonight, when you want to feel like it's fall via beer.  Any disappointment from a lack of foliage or temps slightly too high can be assuaged by the 10 to 12 abv (iirc).

I got four today at downtown Specs.  A lot darker than I expected, but extremely tasty.  Not something I will always turn to or crave, but pretty good nonetheless.

Also got two bottles each of the Rice University Centenni-Ales.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Let us know how those are. As far as I know, you can only get them in Houston.

One is Weedwacker relabeled.  The other is Brown relabeled.

I like their Brown but can't stand the Weedwacker.  But all profits go to Rice, so why not.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

I had a craving for pumpkin beer earlier, but was too lazy to go to specs, so I'm settling for the Lagunitas Bavaria style Doppel Weizen

I'm a big Lagunitas fan, not so much a Hefe fan though.  Love their IPAs.  Would I like this?

It's funny, I went to Spec's a little before 10am to buy it.  I've actually never had a pumpkin-spice beer before, but I support St. Arnold's whenever I can.  I knew (through twitter) it was coming out today and my morning was wide-open, so I went.

Imagine my shock when I discovered a line that extended along the broadside of the building - all schmucks like me who wanted to get a hand on the Pumpkinator.  It was like that wedding dress bazaar they have in NYC or wherever, but instead of cheap, already-pregnant fiancees mauling each other for an overpriced strip of white fabric, it was a horde of overweight alcoholics waddling to the beer section at 10am.  I lapped a little old lady on the way, but I think she was there for Peppermint Schnapps.

Did you see Bench? I think he was there for the release of the new clove and orange zest flavored Captain Morgan's and unwittingly got involved in all the pumpkin hullaballoo.

I must've missed him in the throng of alcoholics.  They all look the same.

I know Bench loves him some orange zest, though.

I split a bottle of pumpkinator last night with the wife. The pumpkin spices are much more of a scent, rather than a flavor. It's a stout so it's pretty heavy and chocolate-y. It was good, but I wouldn't want to drink it everyday (or every week for that matter). Allison picked up 7 bottles at HEB. If I had to guess I would say we will still have 3 or 4 left next October.

Was she Chinese?  If so, she probably recently hurt her knee which is why she may have been slow.

You mean the beer or the wife?
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I would politely sip one if it were handed to me, but I would never stand in line for a pumpkin flavored beer.

I can safely say that this has never happened to me.

It's fall and the weather was fairly cool, and I read Paste magazine's ranking of eight pumpkin ales. http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2011/10/eight-pumpkin-beers-evalutated-byhicexperts.html

I think I may pick up some for tomorrow's tailgate. The New Belgium offering looks intriguing.

I just bottled a batch of pumpkin ale that should be carbonated in another week or so. I will gladly hand you one to sip on.

I'm guessing that, on the alcohol meter, it hits "Brutal".  Might want to make sure that Bench is sitting down, when you hand him a sip.

Actually, I screwed up somewhere along the line and missed my ABV goal. It's only going to be about 4.5%. I was aiming much higher. Trial and error.
