Astros vs. Brewers, 8/7/11

Down 2-0 already on, you guessed it, a home run by Fielder in the first.

So what should I be looking for in today's game?
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it

I woke up for this?

It's just another episode of your 2011 Houston Astros. Brief moments of luck and competence punctuated by the cold reality that they're an inch or two away in every aspect of the game. Sometimes that's a home run or a hard-hit ball instead of a groundout or popup; sometimes it's not getting to the ball; sometimes it's not getting the bat on the ball right; sometimes it's the near-miss tag. Add it up and for those of us who watch this every day it is a 100X magnfication of a steaming pile of shit.

It is Little League stuff. It's 'let's get all the kids in the game and get a sno-cone later' stuff. It's the emptiest of positive outlooks. That's how bad it is.

In defense of Barmes, that was a pretty good move by Greinke. Still, the baserunner on a 3-2 still can't leave until the pitcher comes to the plate/

Bud is tossing BP right now. JD is full of shit about the slider that was just hit. It was flat and in the zone.

And the sad fact is that Greinke is not at his best today. But can we do anything with that? No.

Earlier he was fearlessly pounding the strike zone. Now I'm not so sure he isn't just working on some things out there.

What, with fewer than three outs? Neither Berkman nor Pence is now an Astro so we may just miss that one altogether. If you're looking for an infielder to sail one into the crowd Knoblauch style we'll probably have to wait for DeShields to get here.

If watching THE Altuve, JD Martinez, Paredes, and Shuck get their MLB careers off the ground ain't a good enough reason to keep y'all watching, I ain't sure what is...

During a Braves-Nats game last week, this happened three times. Twice by Uggla, once by the Nationals.

Do you think the players don't respect Clark?  Or are they just indifferent to basecoaches?  Or coaching in general?

If you're gonna be a bear, be a grizzly.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
