06/17/11: HOU @ LAD
« on: June 17, 2011, 09:23:07 pm »
Wait, what's this? Brett Wallace starting against a lefty?  No way...

LAD leads 1-0 with 2 out, 2 on in B1.

In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

On a positive note, Myers did NOT give up a HR in B1...  End 1: HOU 0, LAD 1

Not sure that was wise... Although I don't have a tally, I'm fairly certain that the Astros are a sub- .500 team when I start the game thread...

They're sub-.500 when anybody starts a game thread. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with us.

Top 2:

Lee flies out.
Wallace lines a single to RCF. Against a left-hander? Inconceivable.
(Lilly throws to first to hold Wallace (twice). He's kidding, right?) Barmes flies out to CF.
And apparently somebody else made an out, because the inning is over.

Sorry guys, you get what you pay for in the GZ.

Wait.A.Second. Brett Myers got a hit against an LHP?!?!?  Can't be. I can't believe Mills even left that hack take a swing against an LHP. Must have misread the LAD lineup card or something...

Bottom 2:

Navarro grounds out Kepp to Wallace on the 1st pitch.
Oeltjen (fucking Aussie, buy a consonant) grounds out Barmes to Wallace.
Lilly flies out to Bourgeois in CF on the first pitch.

Nice, a 4-pitch inning for Myers.

After two, Dodgers 1, Astros 0

Around the MLB:
Orioles have 19 LOB through 7IP tonight.  Three guys with 3 or more hits, 16 hits overall...4 runs.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Top 3:

Whoever is hitting 8th makes an out.
Myers grounds out.
Bourgeois squibs a ball down the 1st base line, Loney and the pitcher do a square dance around the ball, and miss the tag. It looks like Bourgeois also misses the bag, but the ump wasn't watching that and calls him safe.
Then Bourgeois gets caught leaning and looks like he's thrown out at 2nd, but he's called safe.
And then Kepp grounds out 6-3. Sigh.

Heading to the bottom of the 3rd, Dodgers 1, Astros 0.

Uribe flies out to deep CF with a little bit of excitement from Bourgeois.

End of 4, Astros 1, Dodgers 1. Myers has really settled down nicely.

I tell you what, I'm going to miss Kepp when he gets traded. He's just the kind of player I like, just the kind of player any fan would like.

I absolutely agree. When you're the bargain-basement Astros, having a competent guy like Keppinger who doesn't make worthless outs and who puts the ball in play is valuable. I understand the move, but I'll miss having him around.

Barmes has been better with the bat than I'd expected.
funny that his name almost never gets brought up when people talk about wade's performance as GM.

The Astros have a real shot if Myers can throw a complete game. Not sure how likely that is. Until then, as Austro says, no lead is safe.

Top 6:

Kepp gets his 500th hit with a double into the LF corner.
Pence squibs to 1B, and then fucks himself up sliding into 1st. Elbow or shoulder, not clear yet. Kepp moves to 3rd.
Lee bloops a single into CF, Kepp scores.
CJ smacks a single into LF, Lee to 2nd.
Wallace walks to load the bases. He needs to get more ABs against left-handers!
Barmes doubles up the RF line, scoring Lee and Johnson!
Corporan gets the IBB, loading the bases again.
Lindblom replaces Lilly for the Dodgers. I'll bet he loves coming in with the bases loaded.
Myers pops to 1B (in foul territory, so no infield fly rule).
Bourgeois goes down 0-2, and then works his way to 3-2, and grounds the ball up the middle. Miles makes a great stop out behind 2nd and tries to get the force at 2nd, but it doesn't happen and both Wallace (?) and Barmes (?) score.
Keppinger flies out to LF to end the inning.

Middle 6: Astros 6, Dodgers 1.

Bottom 6:

Gordon leads off against Myers and grounds out 1-3. 50 pitches at this point.
Miles grounds out 4-3.
Ethier hits a sharp ground ball down the 1B line, but Wallace makes a nice stop and flips it to Myers covering 1B.

End 6: Astros 6, Dodgers 1.

Top 7:

Pence grounds out 5-3.
Lee lines a single into CF. He's 3-4 tonight.
Big Fucking Johnson up. Lee is feeling his oats and tries for his second stolen base on the night, but he's out.
CF flies out to RF.

Downs has more of a looping swing and doesn't put the ball in play as often, but if he's Kepp Jr. that's good.

But he's got a lot more power than Kepp and is far more flexible defensively. He can play any IF position and either corner OF spot.

Yeah, I think of him as more of a Menke guy, hits pretty good for a middle infielder but doesn't really field all that well for SS/2B, but fields real well for a 3B...just doesn't hit well enough.

Bottom 7:

Kemp makes an out somehow.

Uribe hits into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Top 8:

Wallace walks or something.
Barmes doubles into the LF corner, moving Wallace to 3B.
Sanchez pinch-hits for Corporan (I think), and then grounds out to 1B. Barmes is on 3rd.
Myers waks.
Bourgeois grounds to 3B, Barmes winds up in a rundown and gets tagged out. Runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 out.
Line drive to 1B to end the inning.

Bottom 8: Astros 6, Dodgers 1.

Myers stays in for the 9th, much to the delight of anybody who has him on their fantasy team.
Brown hits a ground ball to Wallace, who makes a nice stop and then fucks up the plays, at the bag. Runner on 1st.
Miles strikes out looking.
Ethier smacks a ball over the CF fence, scoring two.
Kemp smacks a ball that is barely foul and into the seats, and then winds up striking out.
Loney grounds out 3-1.

Complete game for Myers, and Astros win 7-3!!!
