I'm really liking Bourgeois. Doesn't have Bourn's pure speed, but seems to be a bit better baserunner than Bourn.  Johnson put a ride on one as well, just not quite enough cheeseburgers behind it... His average is complete ass, but he has hit the ball a ton better than his average would indicate.

Did "baggy" just say to keep him honest by throwing one at his neck or did I mishear that?

Something like that. Question was regarding what can you do with a hitter that is in the groove as much as Braun has been.  In fairness, it was typical Bagwell 'snark,' but there was a smidge of seriousness to it...

Bagwell made a little dig on Pence, pointing out thatr he took one right down main street and then swang at a pitch above his neck.

Barmes is real solid out there. The days of watching the SS boot easy balls are over. So are the days of the SS hitting anywhere over .200. I like tonight's middle infield as a nice compromise.

Wolf really knows how to pitch to the Astros, doesn't he? Comes right at them, breaking balls for strikes. None of this nibbling off-the-plate stuff. He mixes it up so well that these guys are lost.

Why'd they have to send the Wolf, anyway? He thinks fast, he talks fast, he pitches... fast...

He drives real fuckin' fast too, so keep up.

Boggs PH for Wolf works count full before Ks; Weeks F7; Gomez works count full before 2B to LCF but out 8-6-5 on a Penceian stupid move. Take the bat out of Peen's hands. Smart. Not!

Peen is obviously going to homer next inning so another run or two right here would be swell.

Hawkins on to pitch. Bourgeois 6-3; Sanchez 4-3; Pence infield hit to 2B E4 to 2B on a stupid throw by Weeks; Lee IBB on a gift; CJ takes count full before 1-6-3. 1-0 Bottom 9 For the record, I don't like our chances against Braun, Fielder and McGehee with Lyon.

I can't really say I'm Brandon Lyon's biggest fan. Nor am I all that wild about the fact that Mills keeps running him out there pretending he's a closer. Just because your dumbfuck GM gave the guy an unnecessarily large contract does not mean you have to use him as a closer.

So do I.

He was the perfect antidote to a Bagwell and Biggio led club. Antidote is probably the wrong word. He provided some comic equilibrium that while sometimes annoying was probably well needed overall. Bagwell and Biggio were stoic cliche factories, two guys whose baseball accomplishments I could not respect more. Lima brought fruitcake to the party.

It will be an enduring sports disappointment for me that those late 90s teams never made it to the World Series. Not only were they very good teams, especially 98's team, but they were intensely likable. A miracle could strike and this year's team could catapult to the WS and I'd still be pissed at Pence and Lyon.

Joe Posnanski in SI recently listed the highest lifetime ERAs for pitchers over 125 innings. Lima and Scott Elarton were 4 and 5.

Wandy's line is pretty nice tonight, but didn't see any comments.
