Cole Hamels: A Marked Man
« on: March 14, 2011, 03:53:39 pm »
Per Bill Hall. LINK

He’s definitely a marked man for me now, so when I do some damage off him, I’m going to let him know I did some damage off him. I can guarantee that.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Sounds like a guy who is just begging for some chin music, and the Phillies' staff is just the kind of guys who can give it to him if he wants to keep this up.

For pitching inside? In spring training? Please.

Apparently, it was a little closer than just inside and wasn't a pitch that got away from Hamels. I don't know if there's any history between those two. Still, Hall should have let the jawboning betwen he and Hamels during the game be the extent of it.

If he didn't go down, he really doesn't have much to gripe about. One pitch? Get a hit. Don't start something you can't win.

Do you think he would have had the same reaction if Halladay had thrown that pitch?

I agreewith you. However, the pitch apparently did knock Hall down. Both dugouts got warned. Given Hamels's mouthing off at Hall, it was apparently done on purpose, which is uncalled for during spring training. However, with that said, Hall shouldn't have run his piehole to the press, which eats that sort of shit up.

He went down? Well he should've thrown the fucking bat, then! Where were his teammates?  They should have stomped that chickenshit into the ground. What kind of weak bushers are they running out on the field this year? Where is the RESPECT?

If I had been Hamels, I'd have buzzed him again for running his mouth at me and taken an early shower.  He would have gotten on the links earlier.

I agree. You can't let something that small escalate into a war, and that's what Hall seems to be interested in doing here.

Hall needs to concentrate his efforts on hitting the ball. .258 hitters (Hall's ST BA) should shut up and work on it.

As I wrote earlier, I assumed that Hamels threw at him. My objection was Hall running his mouth in the press afterwards.

FTR, Hall takes for...fucking...ever to get set in the batter's box.  Holding his hand up the the Ump the whole time too.  It's not a Nomaresque fidgetfest, but it takes a looooong time.

I can see an opposing pitcher getting frustrated.

Nowhere near such a dangerous smug level.  But he takes a while.

Based on chuck's recap of the event, I can see that Hall didn't do anything wrong...except yack to the press about Hamel.  CJ's dinger should've been all the talking required.

I think he means "additude".  This team is really bad at arithmetic.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Chuck weighs on on Hall vs. Hamels...

After reading Chuck's take, that was mostly on Laz Diaz. But I agree with him: Hamels was being a dick squared. Glad he got lit up. I still think that Hall shouldhave let his knock and CJ's dinger do all of the talking.

MLB talking heads are playing "Grumpy Old Men" about Hall's complaints.  Wild Thing and Bowa both said that Hall should be wearing his next pitch from Hamels.

They didn't seem to know the whole story, fwiw.  They think Hall was just mad about an inside pitch after a HR

As I mentioned I'm fine with everything that Hall did on the field, but I'm with you that he should not have spoken out about it. But remember that in spring games the reporters don't talk to the players after the game is over, they hotfoot it to the locker room once the starting pitcher comes out and certainly once the name players leave the game to get their quotes and so on. So Hall would still have been pretty fresh off the incident when he gave the quote.

I've been wondering the same thing. The truth is last year I thought my firm could do some work for her company. Fortunately just because the phone rings does not obligate one to answer it.
