Hooks 'On the Farm' Series
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:43:19 am »
Has started back up again.  This installment highlights Jose Altuve, Jay Austin, and Brandon Barnes
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Kirk Clark, Lee Cruz, and John Curtis
Am I the only one here who didn't recognize any of their names? I guess they are all roster-filler type guys.

Clark went undrafted in 2009, but showed well in workouts and was signed that summer for $50,000 IIRC.  He set a saves record for Lexington last season.  Like Alaniz, the Astros saw enough in him to 'up the bid' a bit to sign him.

Lee Cruz used to be a White Sox (?) prospect, who was playing Independent ball before he was picked up by the Astros to play for the JetHawks. I don't remember the story on Curtis off the top of my head...

I'm looking forward to seeing Altuve and hoping to see him become our own pissant someday. He's got some pop, he's got wheels, he's got a tiny little strike zone.

Both Cruz & Curtis are used white sox.  Both had a brief look at RR last year.  Both are likely to hang around for a couple of years in AA/AAA as roster-filler, but neither is likely to amount to much.
