According to the transactions page and the Diamondbacks site on mlb.com, the Diamondbacks have signed Blum to a two year contract.

Two years? Blum's gotta be happy with that.

I noticed that as well. It may well be his last big league contract. According to the story on the Diamondbacks' website, there was a Kevin Towers/Padres connection for Blum.

Good for Blum, good for the D'Bags, good for the Astros.

Sprinkles good!

I'm going to miss Blum, a lot. He wasn't AN ASTRO but he was definitely An Astro. If you follow me. He could play anywhere in the IF decently to well and if you look at his pinch hitting numbers you'll find that they were very good. Not everyone can leap off the bench cold and hit an 8th inning guy's stuff like Blum can.

I was sad that the team let him go back when and I'm sad to see him go again. Guys like Blum, Erstad, you need those guys. I wonder who'll take that role.

I agree, Blum was useful but probably not at the price he was at. Erstad was done.

I do think Blum is more useful on a team that has a need for a player-coach and I'm not sure that team is the Astros any more. He had a bat you could count on and a fairly reliable glove, but I think the Astros are moving into a phase where they've got decent gloves available and they'll need to get untried players some time in the field rather than plug holes with a guy like Blummer. Best of luck to him and thanks for his fine service to Houston. He was definitely an Astro.

I sort of get the sense that Michaels is that guy in the OF (I mean from a leadership/vet presence slant; obviously he has the fielding and PHing chops too). In the IF, though, I guess Keppinger is now the elder statesman- and he probably had a career high in ABs/games last year.
