I was but going to DFW instead.  BTW, have one (1) Friday pass available if anyone is looking.  Send me a PM if interested.

I'm there all three days with my Evil Twin™.  Get there Friday middayish and leave Monday.  Let's hook up!

Sounds like a fine time to meet up with some Austinites for some beers. Hopefully more people will be willing to come meet y'all for a drink than met me for one when I was in Houston. [/end guilt trip]

I've got after-hours gigs on Friday and Saturday night, so my only free evening is Sunday.  Will likely be bailing early, after Cage the Elephant, as I have no real need to see The Eagles.  That work for anyone?

I've got floorball until 10ish, but can meet for drinks after that.

That timing would be just about right.

I think a Sunday post-ACL meet-up can be worked in.

Perhaps, say, 10/10:30ish at the Saucer?

I'll try and see if the old man can make it past his 7pm bedtime and come hang out for a bit, too.

It was my understanding that when you said you'd start drinking around 10:00, that you meant 10:00 *AM*.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

If you don't start drinking in the morning how can you drink all day?

Help. Suggestions needed.

I'm getting ready to head out to Zilker. Only going today for sure, might go Sunday evening... It's a different kind of lineup this year. A lot of acts I'm not familiar with. I'm not sure who to see. I'll probably just wander around aimlessly from stage to stage. I could use some suggestions regarding who to see, so if anyone looks at Friday's schedule and sees some can't miss shows, please let me know. Leaning towards The Strokes opposite of Phish. I've never been a fan of Phish but they must have something going for them judging by their legions of fans. I like The Blues Travelers okay. Black Keys, meh... My real quandary is going to be between Sonic Youth and Vampire Weekend. I really like Vampire Weekend but Sonic Youth are Sonic Youth.

The Mountain Goats are pretty good, I'd check them out if I was in town.  I wouldn't miss Beach House or Spoon if I could help it, either.  And Phish > Strokes, imo.  The best description I've heard of phish (and I was a loyal follower for years) is: bad songs, stellar jams.
Robert Randolph puts on a fantastic show, too.  I've also read good things about Miike Snow's last album, but I can't say I've listened to it.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Robert Randolph used to be perhaps my favorite live show in the early 2000s.  I saw him a couple times at a small venue in Vermont.  I most recently saw him around the time of "Every Day" when opening for the Black Crowes.  Maybe it was him, maybe it was me, maybe it was the venue or crowd, but it just wasn't the same.

Agree with Spoon and Beach House recs.

I stopped going to Phish shows after IT, which was probably the worst I have seen Phish perform.  I've heard they're back and playing great shows from people that have gone.  If it's a rejuvinated Phish, I'd choose that over Strokes, but, for me, the Strokes is one of those bands that I forget how fun putting the CD (er, ipod playlist) on at a party can be until it's playing.

Great weekend! One of the better ACLs for me. Good mix of first-sees (Gaslight Anthem, Beach House, Broken Bells, Ryan Bingham, Monsters of Folk), favorites (Muse, Spoon, Black Keys, Band of Horses, Ted Leo) and discoveries (Matt and Kim, Portugal. the Man, Miike Snow, The Soft Pack, Kings Go Forth). Great weather, too.

Great seeing Limey and Evil Twin™ out there, and Jim and Mark for the aftershow at the Flying Saucer. We thought of HH since I wore my hat and our waitress sat down with us. Good times...

I saw Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's at their Houston show on Saturday.  Just a sublime show.

Matt and Kim are a lot of fun as well.  I really enjoyed them at the Houston Press Music Awards show earlier in the summer (and they had a really tough act to follow coming after Trae).

Sonic Youth were jaw dropping incredible.  Actually the triumvirate, back to back to back
of Beach House, Sonic Youth and the Strokes on friday was woth the price of my three day pass.

+1 on the triumvirate.

Also, saw SY at La Zona Rosa on Saturday night.  Great set.

Foals and Band of Horses were really enjoyable, Muse of course rocked, and I loved the energy and unique sound of Gogol Bordello.  Gaslight Anthem and Silversun were just ho-hum to me.

The Strokes performance kind of sucked, imo.  They weren't drawing much applause, and the lead singer seemed to take offense to it.  Awkward, really.  I remember liking them in college, that's why we chose them over Phish -- kind of regretting that choice now.  Everyone I've talked to went to Phish that night and enjoyed it.

Got to meet Norah Jones, so that pretty much made my whole weekend anyway.
