That is some scary stuff right there

Cubs' Tyler Colvin hospitalized after broken bat punctures chest. LINK

UPDATE: Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune tweets that Colvin will remain in the hospital for a few days, with a "chest tube inserted to allow air in, prevent lung from collapsing." His season, apparently, is over.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

I saw another report that said the puncture was deep, and came close to his heart. Damn that's scary; I hope he has a quick recovery.

Nevertheless ... Stuck the Cubs.

Isn't this exactly the sort of nightmare scenario people have been fretting over w/r/t the new ash (?) bats that came out a few years ago?

Maple bats, and the ultimate nightmare scenario was that someone was going to get killed (but you are on the right track). Looks like Colvin missed being the ultimate nightmare scenario by a couple of inches...

He is the only cubs player I liked.  Just seemed like the kind of player I'd want on my team.  Hope he gets better and ends up on a different team.

I suspect the on-deck hitter who was laughing at him now feels like a big turd.

I'm trying to remember, but didn't Yeager take a chunk of wood in the neck that just about killed him while he was in the on-deck circle?

I remember that, too. Back in the late 70s, I think with the Dodgers.

I thought Yeager's injury  was while he was catching, which is why he came up with the neck protector that hung from his mask.

edit: I was wrong; y'all are right.
