Good little 2-strike poke by Hunter past 1B.  He was choked up 3"+ on the bat

How have the Astros avoided the "Los" Astros phenomenon?  I mean, I'm certainly not a fan, but being in Houston and all, you know, it makes sense for Pam to have tried it.  I'm curious as to whether anyone in the Hispanic community finds this effort endearing and/or worthy supporting the team if they did not or feeling some appreciation if they did.

Wallace has got to learn to lay off that 2-1 at his eyeballs there.  3-1 with the bases loaded is a different world from 2-2.

Wallace is simply overmatched at this level right now. Hitting arond .080 on this trip.

Au contraire, BG. The pitching has been really good for awhile. I was simply stating a fact. Wallace is making some mistakes that big leaguers can't make if they want to stay in the big leagues.

I do not like Mr. Hernandez.  That was Bourn's ball.

Was wholly unimpressed with him when I saw him with the Express here in Portland. 2 errors, including a ball between his legs, and half-assing it in the box.

I second that sentiment.   I saw Hernandez play 2B at the first game Lyles pitched at Round Rock a couple weeks ago.   Hernandez looked like he was a couple seconds behind on two or three plays.   Major lack of hustle that night on Hernandez' part

Just set reasonable expectations.  Many of these kids are here because the Astros are in a unique situation to provide major league experience to otherwise minor league players.  This investment may well pay off later in their careers.  With each swinging k at forehead high fastball, you can safely assume a lesson is forthcoming.  And if they happen to sweep the reigning NL Champions in process, well, that's gravy.

If anyone figures out what the fuck Johnson was doing please let me know. OSF, that's about as good a guess as I can make - it looked like he thought it had been caught. Maybe he should check in with the third base coach just for the hell of it.

Check out Willie Mays's start. If you commit to playing rookies, you have to accept growing pains.

That's what DoRay guessed, so it's probably mostly incorrect.

I'm guessing the September call-ups, if there are any, will be pitchers.  Especially for the bullpen.

This is one of the areas that the 'experts' said would be lacking in his game too.  From what (I think) I've seen, kid has been solid!

Figueroa can pitch.

Yeah, he can. He doesn't really look good doing it, he can be all over the place, he doesn't have much velocity, but somehow he gets the job done. You look at the stats and son of a gun, he pitched a good game.

I'm thinking the guys might do better against Parnell than the last time they saw him.

Is Lee faster than Sanchez?

He might be. Sanchez is not a speedy guy. He may have a good first step or two, but if you make him run 60 feet, it's not a pretty sight. That's why I see him as a 2B down the line: not great range, and not really all that great of an arm. Manzella at SS and Sanchez at 2B isn't a bad deal, in my mind. Although I'm not sure that I'd prefer Sanchez over Keppinger at 2B.

Sanchez got screwed.

Yeah, that low strike was pretty suspect. And Manzella takes it in the shorts for the final out.

This is Angel Sanchez, have some faith.

Parnell on. Pence Ks on a perfectly set up snake; Lee 1B and to 2B on E7 to 3B; CJ 1B to RF to 2B; Parnell out and Takahashi on; Michaels PH for Wallace 1B to LF RBI; Sanchez P6 on 3-2 pitch; Manzella PH for Castro K. 2-1 Mets FINAL

Manzella did NOT get screwed. Strike three.

Yeah. He can howl all he wants to but you can't take that pitch.

Brownie just said it. "This team's not quite ready to contend yet, but the way it's coming on here in the second half, maybe next year will be."

Fuck.

Agreed. A rookie can't take that pitch in any event. It had been a strike all night.

Man, we all need to step back from one AB or or one game. Look how far this team and org has come this season.

I'm not slitting my wrists. I'm glad they're making strides and I'm deliriously happy with the coaching.

Absolutely. The team is fun to watch right now precisely because they're not just going through the motions. So what if they blow a play or an AB? They're learning, it's going to happen. I get frustrated by some of the things I see, but it's frustration, not disgust. They'll figure it out.

If anything, the way this team has played has made me excited for next year.  A month ago I couldn't talk about the Astros without saying something along the lines of "football season needs to get here".
