Phillips fouled a ball off his shin Saturday in Chicago and missed Sunday’s game. But he was in Monday’s lineup and said, “I’d play against these guys with one leg. We have to beat these guys. I hate the Cardinals. All they do is bitch and moan about everything, all of them, they’re little bitches, all of ‘em. I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear - I hate the Cardinals.”

Lee for Phillips.  Straight up.

well shut the fuck up then.

i love it.  finally somebody comes out and calls them out for being a bunch of smug assholes.  this ass-kissery about "doing things the right way" must not include larussa taking a blind eye to a certain current hitting coaches alleged misgivings in the late 1990's (and earlier with the A's) or falling asleep, wasted behind the wheel in an intersection a few years ago.  really pissed me off when he bitched about the home plate signage being rotated to give the astros some type of advantage.

and how is this some type of affront to the current reds that used to be cardinals?  doesn't rolen hate larussa?

Here we go, first inning and both teams have a go.  LaRussa and Baker ejected.  Molina and Phillips kick it off.

Just saw the replay on MLB At-Bat.  Molina got right into Phillips as soon as he approached the plate.  Benches cleared, major league cuddling ensued.  Chris Carpenter then kicked off some more serious grappling.  They never showed why the managers got tossed, but then, I would toss both just cos.

Molina later hit a dinger.  Countdown to one in the ear at 5...4...3...

Apologies for delayed response, but it was shown live on MLB network ,Time Warner.  Pisser of a night, returning from watching USA/Brasil abomination, just in time to catch Bourns triple that later tied the game, only to suffer through Lindstrom choking the game up to former Express farm hand Brooks Conrad and his monster dinger.  Happy for Brooks, but DAMN painful night for the brick red, white, black -n- blue.

Footer didn't like Phillips' talk:

Well that didn't take long. Cards, Reds benches cleared. For the record, Brandon Phillips, you are an idiot. (just my opinion).

Not blaming fight on Phillips at all. But what a moron. Igniting the team that is not only fighting you for first but is also the more talented team (again, in my opinion). He did his teammates absolutely no favors.

It was pretty stupid, but fun to point and laugh at.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa didn't necessarily enjoy watching the contest from his office. He claimed that he vomited four times because his stomach was churning so violently throughout the nine innings.

I'm sure it had nothing to do with a late-night strategy session with his pitching coach.
