Brewers @ Astros 7/31/2010 Strange Beginnings

The journey into the rebuilding void moves into day 2

Not to beat a dead horse, but the Astros really should wear these unis for every home game.

Dave Bush is a slop-throwing righty that always seems to pwn the Astros.  Let's hope the new meat can reverse that trend.

I thought this as well.  However, he has only posted a 4.27 ERA against the Astros over the last 3 years, and the stros hit .291 against.  I won't mention that Bush is 4-1 over that period against the hometown club.

Hmm, that's what happens when I go from my addled memory.  Record aside, I seem to remember being at a couple games where Bush just completely shut them down.

All right. Nice inning.

I'm totally on board with Brett Wallace. I hope he's the next Lou Gehrig. But when I saw him, I was surprised. All I could think of was, "What if Larry Mondello grew up to play first base?"

Wallace's ass is as big as Richard Hidalgo's. That's the biggest backyard in town.

Thighs that dwarf Earl Campbell's. JD said you could feed a family for a week on one of his legs.

The play is on mlb.com.  I couldn't find a good way to link it.  The RF was playing shallow and Oswalt hit it pretty hard.

They do seem pretty loose, don't they? Well, Wallace is kinda pressing, but it's nice to get some runs early, especially when Wandy's on the mound.

Jim, I can't summarize the runs for you but there were a couple or three instances of going to right with pitches and getting some good at-bats. Bush was just off the plate with most of his pitches and that made him have to come in more than he wanted to. He didn't look like he had much control tonight.

I was just thinking about that. Blum, Feliz, Michaels, all guys who seem like they can mentor younger players. Had the Astros been able to do a Randy Johnson sort of deal for Myers then count me in. If not, then extending him like they appear poised to do is surely the best possible outcome.

They may be a couple of years from competing for anything but for me as a fan this is a lot more fun than what we saw in April and May.

The Astros ate a lot of salary this year.  Would they be as willing to pay someone to take Lee off their hands, then also pay Berkman millions to come back?  Doesn't seem likely.

The stats agree with me. Right handed hitters are hitting well over .300 against him. He left tonight's game with the bases loaded and one out. Great job, Jim, don't you think?

I would say that he needs to be used only as a left specialist, but they're hitting .271 against him this year (righties .340).  However, from 2007-2009 lefties did not hit over .200 in any year.
