Much like I thoroughly enjoyed when Lidge went back to the World Series and won, the idea of seeing Oswalt in the post-season and then quite possibly helping dethrone the Yankees is awesome. I want to see that happen, I have nothing against Oswalt per se other than he was not meant to be the heir apparent, he was meant to be a spoke in the wheel and not the main cog.  Nothing wrong with that, he's now just that... a wonderful spoke to a now much stronger wheel over in Philly.

I want to see that carry through to the end with Oswalt helping lift the World Series throphy while the Yankees's Joe Giradi is waiting to give his "Well, we tried. I'm proud of my guys, we battled.  That's a great team over there" speech.

A number of folks saying that the biggest winners in the Lee, Haren and Oswalt sweepstakes were the Rays, because none of those pitchers went to the Yankees.

Thanks to ESPN and others who won't ever let it go, it's sad that he'll be remembered more for what turned out to be a meaningless homerun over a perfect season three years later.  I just wish he could have killed in the 2005 World Series -- maybe gotten a save or two -- to show he hadn't gone mental over the Pujols bomb.  I wished that as much for his sake as for what the results would have meant for the team.  He showed everyone eventually -- everyone who chose to notice, that is.

Oswalt has been one of the finest pitchers of his era and is perhaps the best pitcher in club history. He was always surly to an extent that got unbearable in the end. But it really is too bad that the team's decline since 2006 hastened his departure.

I get your point and basically agree, but I'm not sure that was a meaningless homer.  It would have been nice to have a couple more days rest and our best pitcher starting the Series opener.
