Berkman fists a double right on the line in shallow LF to plate two.

Finally, some good luck.

Six runs against Matt Cain in two innings?

great swing, Pence.

Watching MLB Game day. Pitch tracking showed a typical ineffective Pence at bat.  Swung at borderline fastball, layed off curve in dirt, swung at questionable outside fb, strike out on slider away...

My question is, why would anyone pitch him any other way (minus struggling with location)?

Damn it. We had Cain on the ropes for a knockout punch with runners on 2B and 3B with no one out, and we couldn't score despite having our 4-6 hitters up. I'm thrilled about the six runs off of a real tough pitcher, but we should have gotten more. Wandy may need them. His ERA is around 6.

well, the gun shows 90 mph so what do i know.

ehhh.... went back through the first couple innings, minus one or two FBs around 90, most of his fb's are in the 85-88 range.  I remember him working consistently at 89-91 last year, but could be wrong.

eta: he then works Renteria w/ 4 fb's in a 5 pitch ab, all 89mph.... Something Arnsberg has him working on, i.e taking something off his fb for better control?

Castro is the anti-Spazz at the plate. He shows great plate discipline. Worked a walk and then scored on another Bourn double.

The Astros have knocked Cain from the game. I am shocked, he's been one of the best pitchers in the NL.

not a strikeout pitcher. good location and ground balls would be lovely.

Very much agree, especially since I'm stuck at the office without a television.
